As usual, the outlines I have to mark seem to be going very, very slowly, probably because I put them off to the late afternoon. And because they are sadly repetitive. (But [livejournal.com profile] c_iulius will be pleased, I hope, to hear that I have not managed to prejudice my students against Caesar.) I want them done today, because tomorrow BH arrives, but it's as if I've reached the limit to "getting stuff done" today with a trip to the market and what seemed like a year's worth of filing.

So here I am, lurking on lj on a Saturday, desperate for amusement. Please! I am suffering from a complete lack of motivation: I'm not even motivated to edit a piece of fanfic I'm working on. Prompt me, or poke me with pointy sticks, or something. Please.

poke, poke, with pointy stick. I would love to see Dean try to charm Syd, while trying not to say he is tracking something Rambaldi-ish (for the usual "she'll think we're nuts" reasons) What she does to him is entirely up to you!

OMG, I love this so much. Because Sam would know from the moment he saw her that she was more dangerous than demons. And that his brother wouldn't have figured that. Oh, Dean.

Yes, think on this further.

*pokes you with a pointy stick*

Want me to tell you a story about 1/5 of your tiny birthday present? Barkley said it was ugly. UGLY! Okay, no she didn't. She said it was less than pretty. Okay, she didn't say that either. Mostly she said that was uneven. Can you imagine!? OMG. Uneven. Never mind that she was right. What does *that* matter? I was crushed. CRUSHED. And then she said the revised version lost something in translation! Talk about hard to please. So now you're getting all three versions of the ugly uneven thing. *g*

I got nothin'.

My productivity is all askew after my trip to Philly (which was great and I love Penn, which is both terrifying and awesome). Also that icon is fabulous.

Dan is upstairs grading. He is a better person than me.

Were you secretly hoping you would dislike Penn?

I wasn't naive enough to expect I'd actively dislike it, given my positive experiences with the faculty during the application process.

I also didn't expect to have the same sort of visceral, "this feels right," experience that I had when I first hung out at WM. The strength of that reaction is always a little scary in the good way, because it brings out my tendency to get really intense about things. And, so far it's looking like no class on Fridays is very possible.

small people

Best description of undergrads ever. I am excited about getting to TA because then I can start to complain about stupid undergraduate tricks, just like the cool kids.

I loved my time as a grad student at Penn. University City is a lot more homogeneous--and expensive--than when I lived there, but it is really pretty in a neighborhoody sort of way. If I didn't like living in the historic district and walking to work so much I'd probably go back to the area to live even now.

But c_iulius will be pleased, I hope, to hear that I have not managed to prejudice my students against Caesar

Indeed, I am pleased. Of course, this probably frustrates you -- why can they not see the truth! Actually, I wonder if students will be more inclined to the Caesarian side after watching S1 of Rome. More to the point -- how will S2 affect the way we teach Augustus? Most of the time I have only enough class time to focus on the later aspects such as his religio-moral-cultural achievements and the constitutional shift. But we see Octavian in a much different light on the show, and I bet we'll see very little of Augustus (maybe in a postscript voiceover?).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
