New Fic!

vaznetti: (crossovers! yay!)
SO here I am, posting new fic for the first time in years. I had an excellent [community profile] crossovering exchange. I wrote TWO stories, and I received something really amazing in return. First, my gift:

a wolf age ere the world falls (10031 words) by wnnbdarklord
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Avengers (Marvel Movies), A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Characters: Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Thor (Marvel), Bran Stark, Ned Stark, Lyanna Stark, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Natasha Romanov (Marvel), Background & Cameo Characters
Additional Tags: Crossover, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Infinity Gems, Memory Alteration, Memory Loss, Time Skips, Background Character Death, Canonical Character Death, references to canon typical violence and sexual assault
Summary:
The boy in the weirwood dreams of another world, where heroes exist that can help save them all. He reaches through and pulls. Blue light fills him as the universe tears apart. The world changes.

---

An MCU/ASoIaF crossover where the Avengers are pulled into Westeros to help with their White Walker problem. Except they get overshot and get sent farther back than intended. What else is Tony Stark going to do but build his way out?

I have wanted some version of this crossover for years, and this was wonderful beyond my wildest dreams. Everyone in it is perfect, especially Tony, but really, everyone. It is perfect!

Meanwhile, I wrote a SPN/SW story as my assignment, which was a lot of fun, but also challenging because I've never written SW (barring some 30-year old Mary Sue drawerfic) and it's been a long time since I've written SPN, and I really didn't want this to be like the last time I wrote Winchesters in Space. Also, it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that in this universe Sam and Dean would name their spaceship Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell.

Paved with Bad Intentions (The Road out of Hell) (7815 words) by Vaznetti
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Star Wars Original Trilogy, Supernatural
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Sam Winchester, Han Solo, Dean Winchester, Chewbacca (Star Wars)
Additional Tags: Crossover, Action/Adventure, Pre-Star Wars: A New Hope, SPN S3
Summary: Sam finds a way to save Dean from Hell; it involves sending them both to a galaxy far far away. Set in SPN Season 3, and some time before ANH.

I also wrote a very last-minute treat crossing over Game of Thrones and the Vorkosigan books, which in the way of last-minute treats was very well received, and now I might have to write more of it.

Winterfell Tales (2615 words) by Vaznetti
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Game of Thrones (TV), Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ekaterin Vorsoisson Vorkosigan/Miles Vorkosigan
Characters: Miles Vorkosigan, Ekaterin Vorsoisson Vorkosigan, Sansa Stark, Armsman Roic, Tyrion Lannister
Additional Tags: Crossover, crossovering treat, Game of Thrones spoilers
Summary: It's like something out of an old story, Miles thinks: a Betan's idea of what Barrayar was like.

The language of the strong to the weak
by [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti
[livejournal.com profile] crossovers100 prompt 87: choice
SPN/Alias
Bela, Sark, possibly disturbing content, spoilers for SPN 3x15 and 3x16.
This is, as usual, for [livejournal.com profile] zarahemla
A companion piece to the nameless dead and Isis and Nepthys. c. 1000 words.

the dead spin and wail around her )

Yes, I am posting fic late at night on Friday, when no one will see it. I never claimed to know what I'm doing, did I?
vaznetti: (lost in america)
[livejournal.com profile] hossgal gave me options, but this is the story I think I have the most to say about. I might go back and do one of the others as well. Also, it seems to have been a fairly popular story, so there's a chance other people will also be interested.

The story (without comments) is here

story with commentary below the cut )

And now, groceries and exams.
vaznetti: (god will dance for john)
It kind of amused me that all the John Winchester fans thought exactly the same thing about that spoilery thing that happened in the last SPN episode ). And then [livejournal.com profile] phantomas posted this macro. There are many other things I should be writing right now, but this is what came out. Full of spoilers for SPN 3x07, obviously, and lacking in sense or a beta.

Bargaining (post-ep snippet for "Fresh Blood")
by [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti

Bela felt that her tone conveyed the precise mix of reason and forcefulness necessary in the situation. )

Bela is a great deal of fun to write; I'll have to do that some more.
vaznetti: (god will dance for john)
[livejournal.com profile] zarahemla asked for another bit of John in Hell. This is unlikely to make any sense if you haven't read "The Nameless Dead."

along the river-bank )
vaznetti: (god will dance for john)
[livejournal.com profile] cidercupakes asked for John and River; she got an outtake from Blessings. Let's say it's set between Xu Landing and Xinwuwei Port.

a break-in, with the promise of cake )

And now to bed -- I should have been asleep an hour ago!
vaznetti: (john is leaving)
Title: Lightning fast and all alone (HL/SPN, Duncan MacLeod, John Winchester)
Author: Vanzetti
Gen, R for violence and language, c. 6400 words
Summary: The past weighs heavy on Duncan MacLeod, and the future on John Winchester.
Post-ep for SPN 1x 16, "Shadow."
Author's notes: Many thanks to Rhi and Rez for beta-reading and hand-holding. The title comes from Townes van Zandt, "High, Low and In Between." Freakishly appropriate lyrics here.

Two men go hunting a demon; neither is quite what the other expects. )

Comments very welcome; part of me thinks I'm crazy for posting this on a Thursday, but it's done, so here it is.
vaznetti: (wes+gun (base by alanna))
I almost forgot I had this icon.

Long long ago, [livejournal.com profile] hossgal asked for Bobby (SPN) and Wesley (AtS) in that great crossover meme. And I was thinking about it off and on, and finally came up with this post-AHBL snippet.

whiff of sulfur )

I had other thoughts, but who knows what they might have been. And oh, how can summer be over already?
vaznetti: (mary burning)
Paper Weight
by Vanzetti
Rated: PG
Category: Gen
Characters: Kathleen Hudak, Victor Henriksen, Cassie Robinson, others
Summary: Kathleen Hudak is a survivor, even when she isn't sure of anything else.
author's notes )

The evidence is scattered all over the table, file after file of crime-scene photographs, evidence lists, a familiar face staring back from a booking photo. The other photographs are grimmer: wrecked houses, dead and mutilated bodies, charred skeletons. )
vaznetti: (beat)
Title: like love we seldom keep
Author: Vanzetti
Characters: John Winchester, Marita Covarrubias, Alex Krycek (Marita/John, Marita/Alex)
Rated: Adult
A/N: Post-series for X-Files, pre-series for SPN. Title from W. H. Auden. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] zarahemla and [livejournal.com profile] se_parsons for beta-reading; they did their best to make the story better, and all the problems left are mine.
Summary: A hunter wanders through the pages of someone else's story.
c. 4000 words

John knocks on the door to unit 16 a little after two in the afternoon. It's just one more anonymous brick townhouse in a whole row of them, white paint and green lawns in a suburb so neat it makes his teeth ache. Just like all the others, but this one has a vicious spirit haunting it: a few months of pranks, but now the cop in unit 14 is in the hospital and this townhouse is at the top of John's list. )
vaznetti: (crossovers yay!)
Earlier lists of five here (SPN, Jericho), here (SPN, XF) and here (Primeval).

And finally... for [livejournal.com profile] celli and [livejournal.com profile] camille_is_here, Five crossovers the Winchesters didn't know they were in. (Alias, Jericho, Primeval, Angel, The Riddle-Master of Hed)

five crossovers, under the cut -- mostly gen, mostly Sam and Dean. )

I don't think I've ever needed this many tags on a post!
vaznetti: (god will dance for john)
Title: The Face of the Crocodile
Author: Vanzetti ([livejournal.com profile] vaznetti)
G, SPN/Sandman crossover, Gen or Bob
Sequel to The recovery of a sick man.
Summary: Death fulfills a promise
c. 1000 words

The rain comes down hard and it's pitch black outside. )
vaznetti: (mary burning)
Did I do any of the writing I ought to be doing on stories in progress this weekend? Sadly, not so much. Instead I wrote two and a half post-eps for "Home," of which this is the first.

Title: The recovery of a sick man
by Vanzetti
G, SPN/Sandman (post-ep for Home)
Summary: Mary has no fear of death.
c. 400 words, no beta

Mary stands still. )

Considering that this is the fourth SPN crossover with Death I've started, and the first I've finished... I don't know what that says about me, actually. And even this is more a way of playing with a few ideas than a story.
vaznetti: (point the gun)
A bit of repetition caught in my ear Thursday night, and I thought it was just about enough to hang a drabble on.

Title: Message
Author: Vanzetti
Spoilers for 2x14, Born under a Bad Sign
100 words
Rated PG

Bobby calls them first, now... )

As an aside, I am amused to note that I played with the idea of I should cut this for spoilers, too, I think )
vaznetti: (john is a dork)
So this morning I posted a serious story about Missouri Mosely. Now I am posting a somewhat different story, with Missouri in it. I want to say up front that this was not my idea -- I actually came across it a couple days ago via friendsfriends, and have no idea whose it was. If any of you remember, could you drop me a line so that I can let her know and apologize for stealing her really excellent idea for crackfic?

Untitled SPN/GA crossover. Crack. Resfic. Did I mention the crack?

Adele Webber has a very good reason for keeping Richard out of the house )

I was hoping this would be funnier, actually. But now I've posted it, and can go watch Rome. Yay!
vaznetti: (lost in america)
I wrote this for [livejournal.com profile] rez_lo, who is having upheaval in her life, and who wanted to see a bit more of one of those female characters SPN has lurking around in the corners.

Title: Dust and Air
Author: Vanzetti
Category: Gen, Missouri Mosely, pre-series
Rated: PG
Word count: c. 600
Summary: I went to Missouri, and I learned the truth.
For [livejournal.com profile] rez_lo; thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hossgal for beta-reading. Mistakes are mine; the characters and universe aren't.

I went to Missouri, and I learned the truth )
vaznetti: (damsel)
And finally, another part of Blessings against the Thunder. No, really. At least it's substantial.

Blessings against the Thunder: Whitefall
by [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti
SPN/FF (John/Zoe and ensembles)
R for language and violence, spoilers for Serenity, c. 4,000 words

Notes: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rez_lo and [livejournal.com profile] musesfool for beta reading and to [livejournal.com profile] the_grynne for going far beyond what might be expected in helping me with Chinese language questions. This one's for [livejournal.com profile] hossgal; I hope she likes it.

Summary: In which some things are broken and some things are mended, plans are made and discarded, Kaylee and Zoe gossip and Sam and Inara have tea. There are also explosions, of various kinds.

Previously:
Eurydice Settlement
Caieta Port
Xú Landing, 1, 2
Xinwuwei Docks, 1, 2
Blackout Zone, 1, 2, 3
Blackout Zone: Epilogue

They eat out under the stars, though Mal can't help thinking that they were enough to make Serenity's galley feel crowded and noisy, and how that might make a change. In the morning he hears Inara and Zoe laughing as he climbs his ladder, and smiles all the way down the corridor. And there's John Winchester taking up space at the table, drinking his morning tea and grinning like he belongs there, like he's got nothing better to do than hang around on Serenity making women laugh. )
vaznetti: (john is sad)
So in case you missed it, [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 and I were playing with some ideas about a gender-swap (genderswitch?) AU, and wrote a couple snippets. Then she wrote another snippet, set a few years later. And last night I wrote this, which is part of how we get from A to B.

---

It starts with a phone call... )

---

I've never been all that interested in AUs, but what I kind of like about this one is how changing one thing might change everything else -- obviously the relationships here aren't quite the same as the relationships we see in the show -- but the characters are still, at the core, who they always were.
vaznetti: (john is a dork)
I totally blame [livejournal.com profile] cofax7, just so we're clear on that. We were talking about how the Winchester family might have been different if one of the kids were a girl, and somehow this whole AU thing just appeared on the horizon, with a Stephanie instead of a Sam and... well, you know how these things go.

So she posted a snippet, and then I posted something in the same universe, but set a little earlier, which barely deserves the name "scene." But I have a feeling that there may be more, at least if Cofax has her way.

Because this is totally, completely, all her fault.

vaznetti: (beat)
[livejournal.com profile] yuletide continues to beat me about the head and shoulders. I will do anything to avoid it including, the other night, watching about half an hour of some movie with Laurie Holden and a talking dog in it. I'd forgotten how pretty she is when she smiles: she kind of glows. Or maybe it was the lighting. Anyway, that reminded me that my first attempt at writing SPN was a SPN/XF crossover with Dean and Krycek -- five ways Dean never met Krycek, or something. Two of the scenes just never came together, one I can't find a way out of and one has been jossed to hell, more or less literally. But this one was always my favorite, and I'm a little amused that it was practically the first thing I ever wrote in this fandom.

Untitled crossover snippet; post-series for XF and pre-series for SPN
Dean Winchester, Marita Covarrubias
R for language

Dean has strong opinions about people who try to commune with the spirits of the dead )

And now I can abandon the fic with a clear conscience, right?
