As usual, the outlines I have to mark seem to be going very, very slowly, probably because I put them off to the late afternoon. And because they are sadly repetitive. (But [livejournal.com profile] c_iulius will be pleased, I hope, to hear that I have not managed to prejudice my students against Caesar.) I want them done today, because tomorrow BH arrives, but it's as if I've reached the limit to "getting stuff done" today with a trip to the market and what seemed like a year's worth of filing.

So here I am, lurking on lj on a Saturday, desperate for amusement. Please! I am suffering from a complete lack of motivation: I'm not even motivated to edit a piece of fanfic I'm working on. Prompt me, or poke me with pointy sticks, or something. Please.

*pokes*

I got nothin'.

My productivity is all askew after my trip to Philly (which was great and I love Penn, which is both terrifying and awesome). Also that icon is fabulous.

Dan is upstairs grading. He is a better person than me.

Were you secretly hoping you would dislike Penn?

I wasn't naive enough to expect I'd actively dislike it, given my positive experiences with the faculty during the application process.

I also didn't expect to have the same sort of visceral, "this feels right," experience that I had when I first hung out at WM. The strength of that reaction is always a little scary in the good way, because it brings out my tendency to get really intense about things. And, so far it's looking like no class on Fridays is very possible.

Best description of undergrads ever. I am excited about getting to TA because then I can start to complain about stupid undergraduate tricks, just like the cool kids.

I loved my time as a grad student at Penn. University City is a lot more homogeneous--and expensive--than when I lived there, but it is really pretty in a neighborhoody sort of way. If I didn't like living in the historic district and walking to work so much I'd probably go back to the area to live even now.
