The Yuletide names are up, and it's time for the reveal. Here's mine.

Title: My hands remember hers
Author: Vanzetti
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] random_flores, for Yuletide 2006
Fandom: Deadwood
Pairing: Joanie Stubbs/Calamity Jane
R for language, set post S3, but with no real spoilers
Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rez_lo for beta-reading in the face of my many insecurities. The errors of course are all mine.
Summary: Snow in Deadwood, December 23rd: a house turns inside-out, Joanie decorates and Jane goes for a walk.

There's some kind of crud in Jane's eyes, sticking them closed... )

On a final yuletide-related note, I want everyone to know how much I love [livejournal.com profile] elishavah, because she is awesome beyond the telling of it.

Among the good things, recently, has been catching up with Deadwood -- watching some of season 2 again, and starting on Season 3. It's such an amazing show.

discussion to episode 3 of season 3 )

Why don't I have a Deadwood icon? I thought I did have a Deadwood icon, actually. Oh, and please try not to spoil me for later episodes. Thank you.

brief and spoilery notes )

That's it for now -- not because I don't have more to say, but because this isn't brief any more.

I've been ducking and dancing around Al's occasional anti-semitic comment about Sol, but that's because I've been thinking about them, too. spoilers and anti-semitism under the cut )

...which I suppose is what "othering" is all about, really.

In which Deadwood raises the bar yet once more. this show needs a whole new class of warning )

Such a good show. Such a good show.

Why is it that I still don't have a Deadwood icon?

and a few other things )

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person who could not understand large chunks of the dialogue. Too much muttering! cut for specific spoilers )

I watched Carnivale afterward. Sadly, I just don't feel the love for that show.

I think that the first season of Deadwood may be the only show to rival the first season of Homicide. Although I may need to acquire the DVDs and do a lot of watching to confirm that opinion. So needless to say, I'm looking forward to this season. A lot. And I have a few things to say about last night's episode.

Welcome to Deadwood )

I did have a restful weekend, thank you, but I miss my lost hour. Getting out of bed this morning was rather painful.

Even without Alias, Sunday is the night of too much television--is anyone else watching Deadwood on HBO? I must admit that it's growing on me. Of course, every time I think "Wow, this is really good," I also think, "Yeah, but remember Carnivale, which also looked good three episodes in." Not--to clarify--that Carnivale was bad, but that it was needlessly confusing. I'm not a stupid person: if I don't understand a TV show, the problem isn't with me. At the moment, however, I feel hopeful: Deadwood has every indication of being a story, whereas even from the beginning Carnivale was at heart a Gnostic text.

But yes, now that I'm used to the profanity, I like Deadwood very much. The performances are stellar and the plotting (if predictable at times) is smooth. spoilers )

But the best thing last night was the Simpson's history of Henry the 8th. It's funny because it's true.
