The Tyranny of Socks

I am monumentally incapable of caring about the LJ content flagging system. You all can care for me, how's that? I was out late for a party last night, and luckily this is a light teaching day, because I am feeling rather thick-headed.

Instead of writing about fandom or LJ, I offer you a snippet from Blessings. Well, let's say from some months after the projected end of Blessings. Mal, Kaylee, John and the problem of salvage.

I don't think Mal's drawn a gun on John, anyway. Not yet.

It is Friday afternoon. I have a huge stack of essays to mark over the weekend. I cannot leave until about 4 pm, because I have student taking an exam. And yet I cannot bring myself to mark, either.

So. Distract me. Prompt me, even.

I realize that everyone probably thought I'd forgotten all about this, or rather, that everyone else probably has forgotten all about this, but here's another piece of "Blessings Against Thunder." I'm calling it the epilogue to Blackout Zone. It's just John and Zoe, and almost no plot. It was supposed to just be comfort sex, but I forgot how difficult both characters can be.

This is the end of the first arc of the story; as the sequel hook indicates, there will be more to come. I'm working on it. But I would say that this is the segment that moves us firmly from "set of connected stories" to "work in progress," for those of you to whom that distinction matters.
