OK. I had a busy week, I admit it. I haven't been paying as much attention to livejournal as I might have. But I just looked at this week's edition of
metafandom, and wow. Was it a slow week for television or something? Where did all the wank come from? Women shouldn't write from a male pov? Or should we? Are we really about to have slash vs. het again, complete with witty observations like, "Well, it seems to me that het fic isn't very good. Of course, I don't read much of it," and decent het writers with an attachment to fandom being classified as "atypical"? And we haven't even finished talking about whether slash is gay or not!
Please tell me that there will lots and lots of new television next week, so that we will all be backing away from the stupidity.

Date: 2006-03-28 02:49 am (UTC)Oh, well. ::amused:: If I only wrote from personal experience, my stories would be much more boring. And I'm not sure what a feminist is these days, and I doubt I ever was one. (I'm all in favor of people getting to do what they're competent at and like, though, regardless of gender, race, age, and/or species. Where does that put me, do you think?)
Here, though, have link to a due South/Twin Peaks crossover which I am, so far, greatly enjoying. {{hugs}}

Hm. I'll look up that crossover when I'm not off to an early night!

Date: 2006-03-28 03:06 am (UTC)I actually went and read that essay and I must say -- for someone ostensibly not trying to offend, it's more than a tad accusatory. Also? The logic is abysmal. Unless someone can *show me* a direct link where writing male POV leads/has led to court-ordered gang rape, female genital mutilation, etc., it's a specious argument. I'd personally class it as 'inciting to riot.'
::shaking head:: Oh, well. ::shrugs:: I do write multi-points of view, all 3 voices, past and present tense, white, black, Indian, female, male, old, and young. I'm not about to listen to someone telling me what I can and can't write on this anymore than I did to the craptastic 'said' 'adverb' and '3rd person omniscient' arguments either.
Lord. I'd gotten used to fandom being on the *good* crack, the kind that led to (fun but) insane SGA fics. I think I'll saunter back that way, too. {{hugs}}
