Seen everywhere:
Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I'll give you either (a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon, (b) a reason he/she sucks, (c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes, (d) five things that never happened to that character or (e) five people that character never fell in love with and why. You pick the character. I pick the letter.
Fandoms: Alias, SPN, Deadwood, Firefly, XF, Lymond Chronicles, Rome, Jericho, Homicide, Highlander, and probably Buffy and Angel. ooh! And those Dalziel and Pascoe novels. And you know, if you think I know it, just ask. Especially if its something I've written in.
In other news, homemade macaroni and cheese is the best comfort food in the whole universe.

Date: 2007-12-01 01:39 am (UTC)Illyria, in my personal fanon:
1. She would have saved Wesley's life, at the end; she considers it a great irony that the reason she couldn't was that he had removed so much of her power.
2. She came to be fond of him and his friends -- as fond as she was capable of being, at least.
3. But she never forgave them for stealing her power, and she never reconciled herself to their absence. Not really. It was, she imagined, what constant low-level pain would feel like, if she admitted to herself that she could feel pain.

Date: 2007-12-01 07:53 am (UTC)Yeah, I don't think she would've done the Fred-for-Fred's-parents thing if she hadn't been "fond" of the Angel lot.
Oh -- who from B5?
How about someone who was from our hearts untimely ripped (sorry, I just saw Macbeth tonight): Talia.
(Actually, how about just, like, absolutely everyone from B5? *grin*)

Date: 2007-12-01 01:42 am (UTC)He came to reject the conspiracy not because he thought it was wrong but because he realized it wouldn't work; he couldn't trust his colleagues not to betray him and his, so he acted first. But it was always about his own survival.

Date: 2007-12-01 03:53 pm (UTC)Really? I am filing that away in my "things to know about Cofax" file.
Alec Guthrie is awesomecakes, with a side of awesome, because he's not only smart enough to run anything from a small army to a country, he's also smart enough to know that he really doesn't want to. And because he can't help watching Francis try his hand at these things, and trying to keep things steady while he does.

Date: 2007-12-01 01:03 am (UTC)jack = b! no! e!
Date: 2007-12-02 02:27 pm (UTC)Jack Bristow sucks because...5 people Jack Bristow never fell in love with:
1. Katya Derevko. Even in the year he thought Irina dead, he knew that Katya would never fill that void, and wasn't willing to let her try; after all, she wasn't Irina, but she was still a Derevko.
2. Emily Sloane. He found out about Sloane's affair with Laura a few years after she "died"; Arvin never realized it, he thinks, but then again one can never be sure with Arvin. He considered seducing Emily, just to prove that he could take from Arvin what Arvin had taken from him. Then he thought about Emily, and how she laughed to cover her loss, and thought hat if he let herself get close to her there would be no going back.
3. Nadia Santos. He thought about her a great deal, when they first met: Irina's daughter, like and unlike. Like and unlike his own daughter, as well. It might have happened, if he'd allowed himself; but then, when he catches himself thinking that, he also thinks that he's twice her age and more, that there are younger, better men than him.
He finds it ironic that women associated with Arvin Sloane are the ones who remind him that there are things he will not do; in both cases, the regret hits him hardest after they're dead.
4. Julian Sark. He doesn't care for men as young as Sark, and then again, they would both be fucking Irina Derevko's ghost. He can do that well enough on his own.
5. Marcus Dixon. He looked out for Dixon, after his wife was killed, and there were a few late nights, Dixon drinking scotch and Jack mineral water, when he thought that if he'd been drunk he might have tried something, or Dixon might have. But he valued Dixon too highly as Sydney's friend -- something she needed -- to interpose himself into that relationship.

Date: 2007-12-01 01:48 am (UTC)Malcolm Reynolds is awesome because after th war, he not only heals himself, but everyone around him. He doesn't mean to do it, either -- he doesn't want to heal, or to heal others -- but he can't quite help it.

Date: 2007-12-01 02:32 am (UTC)The thing that makes Novello awesome is that she doesn't fall in love. And it's not because she's cold or unloving -- it's just that she's got too many people she cares about, or could care about. Love sounds a little too exclusive and obsessive for Ivor.
(And I'm desperately hoping that I haven't misremembered, and also that the most recent book is not th Grand Novello Romance. Unless it's with the rabbi, of course, because I would be 100% behind that.)

Date: 2007-12-01 01:55 am (UTC)Methos = e (with history! and crossovers!)
Date: 2007-12-01 02:34 pm (UTC)2. Maecenas. Which was odd, because Methos had always had a soft spot for Etruscans, but there was something hard about Maecenas which Methos knew a little too well. And then, soon enough, he met Vergilius Maro.
3. Joan of Arc. In fact, he took one look at the girl, and the situation, got straight onto his horse and headed over the Pyrenees to Spain.
4. Sam Winchester. Again, every single warning bell Methos has -- and he has quite a few -- went off when he met Sam and Dean Winchester, but by then Duncan had already involved himself, and someone had to tag along to make sure no one accidentally destroyed the universe. The problem was that he found himself rather liking Sam, and thought that Sam might well like him too; whenever things got too close, Methos would remind himself that once upon a time he had been smart and desperate, too, and that was usually enough to get him to keep his distance.
5. Zoe Washburne. It's not that Methos doesn't like strong women, but he does like to feel at least a little needed. And then, Wash himself was much too good a friend, no matter how beautiful his wife.

ellen = a!
Date: 2007-12-06 06:57 pm (UTC)a. I don't really believe that Ellen slept around on Bill. I do think that they fought all the time, mostly about his hunting, and that she was on the verge of leaving him when he went and got himself killed. And then, because Ellen is nothing if not contradictory, she was determined to stay at the Roadhouse and make the business work even without him.
b. That's part of why she gave Jo such a hard time about hunting -- she blames herself, because it was Ellen's decision to stay in the hunting world even after Bill died, and she should have known that her little girl was going to want to be just like her daddy. And that's exactly the thing Ellen fears the most, and the thing she'll do anything to prevent.
c. Ellen thought she didn't want kids at all. Then she had Jo, and decided she wanted more than one -- at least two, but three would have been better. But she had trouble conceiving, and then Bill died, and it was just her and Jo.
(I had meant to make one of these be about John so -- the strange thing was that she and John were friends, while Bill was alive. Better friends than John and Bill, actually, although of course she doesn't know what John and Bill talked about when it was just the two of them, hunting. Bill was a real talker, certainly. But anyway, she could forgive him for killing her husband, because she knew him, knew what hunting was like, had always known that Bill might die. And about a year after Bill's death, she and John did start sleeping together. But he was a strange man, stranger after Bill's death, and unreliable; they drifted apart in the end. Ellen knows that she didn't have whatever it was which might have healed John; she doesn't blame herself, but she regrets it, still.)

Date: 2007-12-01 03:14 am (UTC)Rebecca = a
Date: 2007-12-01 02:35 pm (UTC)2. She loves the joke in Amanda's name, because she cannot help loving her, as well. It's true that Rebecca saved her and trained her, but Amanda saved Rebecca, as well, returning pure joy to her life when all she could see was death and sorrow in a fallen world. She doesn't like the fact that Amanda's a thief, but she sees it as a sign of the depth of Amanda's love for the material world and all its objects.
3. Even thousands of years later, some nights she still lies n her bed and thinks of David on the hills outside Jerusalem, in the early days of his kingship. She's had many men, lovers and husbands, and many women, but he stays in her mind.
