We are coming up with a list of worst possible directors for the new Star Wars movie, because we can't agree on whether or not JJ Abrams is the worst possible choice, and that Joss Whedon would be a great choice. So far our lists go like this:
Worst possible:
1. Lars von Trier (although totally worthwhile for the full-frontal nudity incest scene between Luke and Leia that would be bound to happen. And obviously a DOGMA film.)
2. George Lucas (QED, and probably should be in first place)
3. Mel Gibson (it would the Death Star of David! Come on!)
4. James Cameron
A. thinks also 5. Peter Jackson, because then the three movies would go on for 37 1/2 hours. Or because he'd remake Star Wars itself in a 7 hour director's cut. I would go for 6. Judd Apatow.
More interesting (mostly fantasy casting, granted)
1. Francis Ford Coppola (Tatooine. Shit.)
2. Guillermo del Toro
3. Ken Loach (this is like the GREAT MISSED OPPORTUNITY of Star Wars! No more saviors!)
4. Ridley Scott
5. Sam Raimi
6. Katherine Bigelow. (Possibly the best director out there at blowing things up, which is central premise of the Star Wars franchise.)
A. would like to add Tim Burton (but what roles would Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter play?) and the Coen Brothers, but only as a musical.
