Another Alias/Firefly
crossovers100 story.
Prompt 88: He
304 words
Follows this story. If this becomes a real story, it will probably be called "And furthermore, I wasn't interested in the bounty," at least until I think of something more interesting. Or something shorter.
Mal could hear Simon rattling on about some nonsense as he walked back up the ramp; only the sound of his own name made his stop. "What ain't I gonna be pleased to see on my--" and then, because the answer was obvious, "What the hell is that?" He thought he was getting used to River's little ways, but dragging a dead body back to Serenity was a step too far. Many steps too far, in fact.
"Mostly dead," River said. "Not all the way." She was crouched down over the body, patting it gently.
"Don't do that," he told her, but it was an old argument and he didn't reckon she could help it anyway. "What's the story here?" he asked Simon, who seemed a little more likely to come up with a simple answer.
Simon shrugged. "The usual. Strange man attacks River, probably hoping for a reward. River knocks strange man unconscious."
"I don't recall her bringing one back before now," Mal commented.
"Couldn't leave him," she said. "Lost little killer. He's like me."
Girl was practically cooing, which wasn't enough to distract Mal from what she'd said. "Like you? shen jing bing one of you's enough." That got a sharp look from Simon, so Mal tried to gentle his tone. "Come on, River. Let's just roll him back down the ramp and go find a nice dark corner to leave him in."
She looked up at him, head at an angle. "He won't be any trouble."
"He ain't a cricket in a cage, River. He's a bounty hunter, 'course he'll be--" Mal was watching her hands flutter, so he saw the body shift under them. He waited while the body shifted and coughed an opened its eyes.
"As it happens," the body said, "I'm not interested in any bounty."
As usual, I am an irresponsible author who promises to write more of this at some later date.

Date: 2005-10-28 08:48 pm (UTC)I'm still not sure how they're going to get Mal to agree, although I suspectthat one gets to a certain point with River where arguing just doesn't do any good.

Really, I don't know which I'm more excited about, this or the the one with Wesley. Either way, yay!
(Is it evil of me to mention that I kind of want to see Sark run into Faith, too?)

Date: 2005-10-28 08:49 pm (UTC)This week was the hell of no writing time -- I'm hoping next week will be an improvement. Because I like this one and the Wesley crossover too.
