I've been re-reading some of my own fic recently, which is surely one of the most self-indulgent things ever. But in between wincing at the editing mistakes and poor phrasing, I was struck by how mean the Kryceks that I write are. Really. It's amazing that the other characters don't band together to knock him over the head and dump the body in the bottom of a lake. I know I'm no hearts-and-roses redemptionista, but I'd forgotten what a bastard I made him. And you know he's the hero in these stories, right?

I've been thinking about my pairing preferences, as well, because it's not like there's a pattern or anything: Krycek/Marita, Jack/Irina, Wesley/Lilah (because if I could write Jossverse, I'd probably write that). Add on Mulder/Krycek, Syd/Lauren and a little Wesley/Angel and you can see where this is going. But when writing I'm actually struck not by the similarities but by how different all these relationships are. Krycek/Marita really ought to be more like Jack/Irina than it is.

And finally, I was looking around some recs for Homicide fic, and thought I'd read some Munch/Kay, because I adore Kay. Adore. This was a mistake, because the thought of John Munch naked freaks me out to no end. Urk. I had to go wash my mind out with bubble bath.

Yes. That is all.

Oh, and you'll probably get email from me explaining the "plot" of the Alias/HP crossover thing with Minerva and Irina in it. Because Brix liked it, but I want one more person to tell me it's okay to be this insane.

and this story will be mostly your fault for enabling first.

I'm worried what it says about me that I never thought your Krycek was all that nasty. Does rereading Krycek mean the krycek muse is beating at the door again?

But, see, I adore bastard!Krycek. He's the boy you love to hate, and that's why I love him. I was struck by this whilst watching my S2 DVDs a few days ago. That's why he's so much fun; he's totally just in it for himself.

Noooooooo!

It's this kind of thinking that leads to glistening eyelashes!! Stand strong!!!!elevnety-one!!!

I don't think your Krycek is overly cruel at all. It's an aspect of his personality, and you show it as it is: as ONE aspect of his personality.

The trouble is when it either becomes his ONLY trait (usually found in stories not written by Krycek-fans) or when it gets glossed over and explained away (which can be found in many stories by Krycek-fans). Your stories have a good balance between the two extremes.

*perks up* Krycek!

Your Krycek is indeed a cranky, violent, uncooperative asshole. *g* But I think his meanness varies from story to story. You wrote him a little milder in ILWT than in most of the K/Ma stuff, didn't you? Anyway, it's a good thing for a fic-Krycek that there's something human there but you catch it only in glimpses. That's how it was on the show, too, and more so in the later seasons.

By the way, your and Kelly's Kryceks remind me of each other even though your stories are really different in tone. I think it has to do with that "uncooperative asshole" and "human in glimpses" thing, as well as the snarky humor.

I never recognized ILWT Mulder as a not-Mulder, except I don't think he irritated me there like he did on the show. Waitaminute, maybe that's it. *g*

But I have no idea why Marita puts up with the Kryceks I write for her.

Well, he's useful and really kissable for a cranky asshole. :)

...'Cause he's Krycek, dude. (Actually, I do remember thinking, "Damn, Krycek sure is an asshole, isn't he?" while reading, I believe, Gates of Ivory, and then thinking, "Well, yes, in fact, Krycek certainly is an asshole. That would be one of his defining characteristics right there.")

And finally, I was looking around some recs for Homicide fic, and thought I'd read some Munch/Kay, because I adore Kay. Adore. This was a mistake, because the thought of John Munch naked freaks me out to no end. Urk.

You know, I had precisely that experience a while ago. It really is too bad. Someone should write some good Kay/Danvers. Zeljko Ivanek naked is OK by me.

Oh, also, in case you have somehow not encountered Sparkgirls, (http://www.sparkgirls.com/) there is fine, fine Homicide (and Sorkinverse) fic to be had there, including a John Hoynes/Tim Bayliss West Wing crossover, which is the kind of pairing I used to think was weird before I got in to Harry Potter fandom.
