I'm terribly jealous of all of you who have a long weekend. But the end is in sight: on Sunday I leave for the last of my campus visits. In the meantime, here's a short fannish meme.
First Online Fandom: Highlander, I guess (and let me yet again thank
gryphonrhi for preserving me from the madness thereof).
Current Online Fandom: Alias, mostly.
First Fandom Crush: Since online was not my first time around, Luke Skywalker. Why yes, I am deeply pathetic, thank you all very much.
Current Fandom Crush: Jack. Arvin. Sark.
First Fanfic Pairing You Wrote: Hm. In a finished, posted story, Krycek/Other. But there was a certain amount of Luke/Mary Sue committed to paper once upon a time, which I think predates the "unfortunate Lost Boys phase," and some other meanderings best left to the obscurity of the ages.
Last Fanfic Pairing You Wrote: In a finished story? Jack/Sark. (Look out, Hell! Here I come!) In progress, Syd/Lauren for the slashficathon. In Latin, Octavianus/unnamed female.

Date: 2004-02-13 02:56 pm (UTC)Really, though, this is to tell you I'm so glad the end is in sight for your interviews, and that I'm counting down to spring break so I can finish Lymond.
And also, someday I need to get my act together with you and we can think about Jack/Irina Asiriel/Mrs. Coulter parallels.
Re:

Re:
Date: 2004-02-13 05:17 pm (UTC)It helps immeasurably that Queen's Play doesn't end on much of a cliffhanger note, or, really a frustrating one. I left it wanting to know what came next, but not as desperate as I was with say, Pullman.
And on a more random note, though I share many of the common squicks regarding litfic, it is amazingly tempting to write fic with more of Christian Stewart. She rocked my socks off, to go teenage for a moment.
Your WIPs
Date: 2004-02-14 05:36 pm (UTC)Yay that you're writing Syd/Lauren--I like the pairing but have yet to read a story that really made me buy it, but I felt that way about Jack/Sark too, so *g*... (Oh, and I liked the unfinished Alliance scene you posted last week a lot, btw).
Re the Latin, is this in Latin or English? I only ask because ever since Winnie Ille Pu started the whole English into Latin translations of children's books thing I've just been convinced that some person somewhere must have done this with their fan fiction too (although admittedly about media characters rather than actual Romans) and someday I will find the link. (Not that I've ever actually looked or anything, but still).
Re: Your WIPs
Date: 2004-02-14 10:04 pm (UTC)It's for the alias slashficathon, so there may be an element of "slash taken for granted" to it. I'll see how it plays out.
The Octavianus thing is a bit of a joke: my Latin class has "dirty word Fridays" and I was using the verb for "perform cunnilinguis" (lingo, -ere, which also means "to lick") to demonstrate the sequence of tenses in indirect questions. It's actually all rather tame. Once they learn some nouns, perhaps I'll have the class write porn as Latin prose composition.
If you ever do find fanfic in Latin, let me know!
