Someone else in disguise...

Should I be reading and commenting on essays? Absolutely. Or else preparing next week's Greek reading. Or vacuuming. Instead, behold the power of procrastination.
I keep beginning spy crossovers that peter out into nothing after half a page or so. If only I were more interested in writing smut, because really, put two good-looking spies in a room together, let them have sex. It's hard to see the down side to that. But no. I must have plot and angst and dull conversations.
Also, I started writing a few In Love With Truth scenes. First person is hard! I can't believe I used to find it easier to write than third person--now it feels all clunky. (And as an aside, why does Jacob Bookman, who is to all intents and purposes my Mary Sue, have this thing for Scully? I don't think I'm being overly prescriptive here, but this Scully is never going to date him. Ever. Nor is she going to run off with him to try to destabilize the government of Myanmar. I thought that the whole point of having a Mary Sue is that they get to screw the characters the author finds sexy. I feel cheated. I think Bookman needs a new love interest.)
This isn't precisely a GIP, but it is a new icon. I think the phrase may be Shrift's.

Because no matter how you claim author insertion, he's a very fine character in his own right, and probably couldn't care less that you consider him your Mary Sue? ;) And he's got excellent taste. Scully's not only hot, she's also tasty and scrumptious. Just ask Frohike.

Well see, we know who *you* find the most sexy on The X-files, and *he*'s got a thing not for Jacob, but for Jacob's sister. Sorry I can't be more helpful. ;)

Date: 2003-09-21 06:26 pm (UTC)I do it all for you. It's kind of difficult--my style has changed so much, and as I say, I'm finding the first person narration awkward. I'm not sure how it will all turn out.
But otherwise: yes, OK, Scully is hot. I can see that. She helped him break into an air force base, which is a regular spy first date, although I don't think she realized that. And yes, he doesn't care that he's my Mary Sue and should let me write him into an Alias story. All true. I just find it odd, you know. I've never really had much of a thing for Scully.

Date: 2003-09-21 03:04 pm (UTC)See, now, the Krycek/Sark (and sometimes Irina!) has gone way plotty. It keeps developing more plot everytime I turn around. I eventually may need a flow chart.
However, Krycek is like my id, so I'm hoping there will be enough snark, intrigue, sex, and explosions to balance things out...

Date: 2003-09-21 03:16 pm (UTC)I hear you. I had a free weekend with nothing to do. I should have tried to write. I should have updated my LiveJournal. Instead I snuck off and spent two days reading The Spring of the Ram.
Not that that wasn't a worthy end in its own right, of course.
Nicholas still makes me want to smack him. But then I had the same reaction to both Lymond and Jerott Blyth at various points, so that's probably just a sign that he's taken root in my mind as a flawed, annoying, well rounded character. At any rate, I seem to have made it past my sticking point in House of Niccolo, so I guess it's time to go out and buy the rest of the series.
And yay for you getting back to In Love With Truth! As for Jacob: perhaps he's not interested in commitment right now, and his subconscious is underlining this by pointing him at Scully as a hopeless case where there's no danger of him getting in over his head? Which doesn't mean that she won't break things over his head, if he tries it on and gets the predictable response, only that he's not going to find himself planning weddings. (Quite apart from the discussions over religion that would ensue, I can just imagine the expression on Bill Scully Jr's face...)
I thought that the whole point of having a Mary Sue is that they get to screw the characters the author finds sexy. I feel cheated.
I guess that's what you get for going with a Marty Stu instead of a Mary Sue. Your only option now is to reveal that Jacob actually plays for both teams, and to hope that all that flirting your Krycek does around your Mulder implies that he does too. :-)
Niccolo!

Quite apart from the discussions over religion that would ensue, I can just imagine the expression on Bill Scully Jr's face...
And see, now you make me want to write a scene like that. "Bill! Meet the new man in my life! What does he do? You really don't want to know."
Re: Niccolo!

Well, Scully doesn't have to mean it. She could just have Jacob in tow for business reasons (witness protection, not wanting to take her eye off a suspect) and have some family gathering sprung on her that she unavoidably needs to drag him along to. I'm sure that Jacob would play up to it nicely.
Because, despite the fact that Mulder thinks it's All About Him, I'm pretty sure that Bill Scully Jr. gets all territorial about any men sniffing around his sister, whether there are any pretensions to romance or not. And while you wouldn't want a brother like that yourself, it's such fun to watch.
Who else would you be?!
