You know, I should just stay away from boards; I'm far too easily irritated by other people in fandom. But I was browsing some Alias spoilers, and one of the shippy posters referred to Lauren Reed (the new Mrs. Vaughn) as Fowley 2.0.
I knew I was going to like this character. Now it's official. I haven't even seen a picture of her, and I already adore her.

She's pretty.
And I like the idea of a premptive strike here. :)
Fandom, schmandom. Heh.

Luckily, my Coke's over there. *points*

New icons are always good. :)

Date: 2003-08-18 05:14 pm (UTC)As for the boards- you can't say I didn't warn you. So far it hasn't gotten as vicious as the old Fowley arguments, but it's heading that way quickly. I think I like the sound of her, personally. Syd needs a real rival.

Date: 2003-08-18 06:29 pm (UTC)Thanks for the picture, by the way--I like the look of her. I like how irritated Sydney looked there, too.

Date: 2003-08-18 03:58 pm (UTC)And yet at the same time I can't help watching the really devoted shippers wailing and moaning about the destruction of their beloved show.
Oh yeah, because the introduction of a new female is the ultimate harbinger of doom. I don't blame you - I still get fascinated by the barbieshippers who spam me for writing Diana fic. Fascinated and annoyed. It does make my head spin that they still have enough venom to move on to other fandoms and continue the insanity.

Date: 2003-08-18 04:04 pm (UTC)Bwahahaha! You very nearly made me laugh out loud.
I don't really think that things will get quite as vitriolic as they did over in XF, but you never know. We'll see, if I ever get my act together and write Reedfic--you know, I've never been flamed for a fic. I feel positively left out.

This could be your chance! Sympathetic Other Lover posted strategically practically guarantees it.

Date: 2003-08-18 06:23 pm (UTC)Luckily, I'm not good at smut. Or love, now that I think about it. But it's the principle of the "we hate her for getting in the way of our preciousss ship!" thing.
Excuse me?
Date: 2003-08-18 10:04 pm (UTC)You're wrong. Okay?
Topic? Oh, ships and shippers, yeah. I think adultery's hot, personally. Fictionally speaking, I mean. And mothers and daughters doing the same guy, and like that. Is there a thread on TWoP for that?
I'm just sayin'.

Date: 2003-08-18 09:01 pm (UTC)I'm not brave enough for the sex, but then, I've just had to put Diana in the headers to get flames. She's like gasoline to a flame, that one.

Date: 2003-08-18 06:11 pm (UTC)Write Reedfic and I'll write you a massive feedback missive to go with the flames. It's a promise. If she does more than navel gaze and actually shows Vaughn physical affection, that's even better.

Date: 2003-08-18 07:43 pm (UTC)Damn, I knew there was a reason I was already polarizing to be *not* a Syd/Vaughn fan. Now I know why. M/S flashbacks! *G*

Date: 2003-08-18 05:55 pm (UTC)And-- I was a diehard Mulder/Scully shipper, but as I don't give a damn about Syd/Vaughn, the kerfluffle amuses me greatly. Makes me wonder if this is what it was like for the XF people who didn't shriek "Finally!" in the S8 finale.
And, Diana Fowley could have been so much cooler. She's another character in XF I love in fic, disliked on screen only for wasted potential.

Date: 2003-08-18 06:41 pm (UTC)Monica Reyes. She rocks in fanfic and her first three episodes, but anything else... she seems to lose her brain cells.
no subject
Date: 2003-08-18 09:31 pm (UTC)Hm. I suppose we can forgive that earlier lack of judgement... *g*
We don't discuss the S8 finale in this space, due to the Unfortunate Incident. Which never happened.

Date: 2003-08-19 07:04 am (UTC)Some of us didn't lose all brain cells when we acquired that particular OTP. ;) I also have strong interest in Marita/Krycek. Oh, and Fowley and Spender stories. Deslea had one of those I now want to go back and reread. Oh, and the occasionally really well done Scully/Skinner.

Nope. Never happened. No idea what you're talking about.

Date: 2003-08-19 08:59 am (UTC)Hi.
Second,
Honestly, I stay away from most boards except for Alias Uncovered. I lost faith in the sanity of most of the fandom back when Alice appeared. So, *shrug*.
Watching the freak out is like spectator sport.
