Apr. 2nd, 2003 05:59 pmWell, I'm back.
I have plenty to say, but can't think of it right at the moment. I have a feeling that I'll end up making a lot of little updates as I pull my thoughts together.
Portland struck me as a nice town--more spread-out than I expected, and very green once you got out of the downtown area. (Apparently, this is due to regular rainfall.) On the way there, last Sunday, we flew just south of Chicago, and it was a brilliantly clear day and I could see all the skyscrapers springing up out of this great flat plain in a cluster, and south of them the Midway and Garfield Park and the University of Chicago and the Museum of Science and Industry. It was pretty impressive, and reminded me that window seats are a good thing. (I don't usually ask for them, because (a) I'm usually flying over the Atlantic, and Greenland is impressive but not that impressive and (b) I drink a lot of water when I fly, so access to the aisle is important.) Today on the way back everything was a bit more hazy, but the city was still pretty impressive, especially after all those hundreds of miles of high plains. Anyway, I waved at all you Chicago people.
So, three days without web access. Did I miss anything important?
