I too have watched and enjoyed The Old Guard on Netflix. It was exactly what I wanted it to be, and brought back many many old HL feels. Excellent soundtrack, not so many bad wigs in the flashbacks.

...And now I am writing something, and probably something no one actually wants to read, because such is my way.

I found it very enjoyable! It is very violent, but the characters are all really great (except for the many many disposable villains-for-hire.)

So far, she is doing a lot of murdering.

I think I love the idea of her -- we didn't see a lot of her as a person in the movie itself, and I haven't read the comics. But just, that little glimpse of her in the ocean, and then at the end of the movie, was extremely tantalising.

If I were her, I might do a lot of murdering too. That kind of rage only comes from frustrated love.

I was pretty in love with the idea of her and Andy and their ride-or-die attitude, and it was pretty terrible that it was interrupted by their separation - one with fire, one with ocean. I'm all over a rage reaction.

Not even 1000 words and she's already killed six people. I anticipate fewer deaths in the next 1000 words if only because there isn't anyone else left on the boat.

I will be there. I was listening to an interview with Rucka at lunch today and they said that after being cast, Veronica Ngo was uncomfortable playing someone of Japanese descent (Noriko in the comic). So the writer did some research, renamed her, and retooled some backstory. I really like that they did not dismiss those concerns

It wasn't a perfect movie but I liked the character work -- and I enjoyed the crap out of it.

Ah, I saw the name Noriko on AO3 and wondered where it came from. I've never read the comics so I'm going on movie canon only.

It has a lot of really cool women! And a lot of history.

I am not actually writing a crossover with the Lymond Chronicles but it is definitely on the list of things I would like to see. Brute force is a valuable commodity, or whatever Francis' line was.

I really enjoyed it! It is, of course, the kind of thing I like anyway (Charlize Theron is an immortal warrior leading a team of also immortal mercenaries! They try to do good but it's a tough world out there! the new girl is a grumpy marine!), but I think the fact that the director is a Black woman also made it more enjoyable to me, because althouhg it was VERY violent it didn't feel exploitative the way male gazey violence sometimes does.
