two spoilery things

I am normally a pretty laid-back viewer these days. For example, I didn't like Natasha dying to get the Soul Stone -- I would definitely preferred that Clint had died, just because I don't like him as much, and because she was the only female character in the original Avengers. (And that last isn't really about the thing in Endgame; it's actually about a decision made by the writers back in 2012 or something. Also, I was relatively certain that Natasha would come back when the Guardians went back to figure out how to get Gamora back; but now that earlier-Gamora is out there, maybe they won't, because the writers won't need that to keep the actress in the movies.) Anyway, I didn't like that Natasha died but I could see how the writers got there, and ultimately it didn't interfere with my enjoyment of the rest of the movie.
I wasn't even particularly upset when my cousin spoiled me for the Big Important Deed that was done at the end of last week's episode of Game of Thrones -- he had guessed who would do it correctly and was just so proud he had to post about it in giant facebook letters.
So I was very surprised to find out that my reaction to the rumor that Jon Snow will end up the hero and the king of Westeros and Daenarys will be the antagonist or even, by the end, the villain was a very visceral I-don't-want-that, and the feeling that it would actually ruin my enjoyment of the series as a whole. I do know why: yet again a female character can't possibly be worthy of holding power if there's a penis around who might do it instead. Of course any woman who wants independent power is automatically evil and undeserving. I don't know why I expected a narrative that would say anything else.
