dipping a toe back into fandom

Over dinner in Chicago, I mentioned to jood that I had been thinking of doing a Jewish-themed fanfic exchange -- or more precisely, that I thought it would be a good idea for someone else to organize a Jewish-themed fanfic exchange -- with stories due on Purim. Purim, for those of you who don't know, is a holiday associated with gift-giving, drunkenness and cross-dressing, so it seems perfect for fannish observance. Plus, I'm sure I've already seen Esther/Vashti slash out there somewhere.

I'm pretty sure that she had the community set up before I got home -- it's over at megillahfic, and you should go check out the first post. But it's taken me all this time to get around to posting about it and finding out whether other people would be interested as well -- and then, if you are, asking you to comment on that first post or pimp the thing in your journal.

Purim falls on March 21st this year; it seems like a workable deadline for a challenge, and possibly for an exchange, if we get our act together quickly. (I have to say that the thought of running a multi-fandom exchange, even a small one, fills me with terror. And we got a fair number of stories for spn_xx, just with claimed prompts.)

So go! Join or pimpmegillahfic! or both! What are you waiting for?

I saw this when it was first pimped, but this post (http://jood.livejournal.com/361103.html) kinda worked *against* the whole 'anyone can play' idea. (Or, that's how I read it. I guess I read it wrong?)

But if it is open to all, then yeah, sure, I'm in. (I'm assuming cross-dressing is optional...)

(Although reading the first few comments Jood got - Cain/Able fic? Oh, fandom, you are severely in need of therapy, because that doesn't even *surprise* me anymore.)

Wow, what an *awesome* idea! I desperately wish I could join and write, but given my recent writer's block, that seems somewhat doubtful. But I'll be there cheering everybody on! And pimping like mad! And apparently offending people with my icon!

So I'm not Jewish, but then I'm not Christian, either, but I did spend the night a Holiday Inn Express go to various religious educational facilities and always got straight A's in religion.

So I've got this idea for Cain/Abel incest!slash. Not sure if I believe in hell, but if I did, I'd be sure to go there.

Anyway, I'm going to take a whack at writing it next week.
