I wrote one story for Yuletide this year. That is my Yuletide deal, I'm afraid: I produce one story, and I produce it by the deadline. This year I signed up for a fandom that I barely knew at all -- I had a memory of watching it and liking it before it was prematurely canceled -- but I had recently seen and fallen in love with a vid for it (unfortunately no longer available on the internet, I believe), and I wanted to give it another look. So I went ahead and added it to the list, and when the assignment came back, there it was: Miracles. I ordered the DVDs from Amazon, they turned up, I watched, and I fell head-over-heels in love with the show. I'm not sure that the story I wrote really did justice to the show -- and then again, it was perhaps a little too close to the tone of the show for the fandom. I'm not sure. And I have an awful feeling that I misremembered the title line. But in any case, what I wrote was:

Get with Child a Mandrake Root (Gen, 17 K)
In which Paul may or may not find his father, and Alva may or may not be lying.

I could never have written this story without [livejournal.com profile] rez_lo for beta-reading and hand-holding, [livejournal.com profile] vee_fic for help with the geography and housing of Boston, [livejournal.com profile] hossgal and [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 for information on Catholic funeral masses, and [livejournal.com profile] killabeez, who I foolishly left off the author's notes, for allowing me to squee at her very early in the process.

Next year, maybe I'll get American Gothic...

I don't know the show at all, sorry. But for what it's worth, I like the title! Much better than my lame one. :)

Going off to read the Miracles story. I watched when it came on, hoping to love it, but didn't.I think perhaps viewing it through a SPN lens, not as a crossover, but just as shifted sensibilitity might make a difference.

But, had to say, American Gothic! I would bow down to your fangirly wonderfulness for American Gothic fic.

ETA: Squee! Loved the ending. Will not spill, in case someone reads the comments before the story, but loved the ending. But you doubtless knew I would!

Just dropped by to say thanks again for the story. I think you've probably recieved my email at this point, but I'm pleased to discover that you also wrote a Yuletide fic for one of my friends - Franzi - in 2005. She and I went to college together, and I wouldn't know what fan fiction was if not for her. ^_^
