I had a day of sadness and irritability, but am happy to be able to report that Cane was exactly the kind of cliched, trashy fun I hoped it would be. I loved every minute of its stereotyped, godfather-wannabe self. The gangs! And the threats! And the politics! And the music! and the club! and the parties! Seriously!. I mean, Francisco even looks unreliable! And I was relieved to learn that Mrs. Vega (whose first name I will learn) married when she was 17, since it explains why she doesn't look all that much older than her own children.
So yes, it was pretty clear that Alex would end up in danger, and Vega would have his own hired thugs kill someone responsible. Soon I expect they will be setting fire to cars and other large, flammable objects. And the women will wear skimpy outfits.
If there's a prize for worst attempt at an American accent ever, I think Polly Walker's going to win it. What was that supposed to be? Still, it's Polly Walker on my TV set, so that's not bad, and really, given the kind of show it is, it's not like anyone is going in with high expectations. This is a show about the concept, not the quality.
I don't actually have much to say except squeeeee!, and that I found it very enjoyable, and exactly what I needed to watch this evening. I recommend it heartily to anyone who wants a trashy evening soap. Which, now that I think about it, is probably only me.

I was relieved to realize Mrs. Vega had married that young too. When I first saw her I mistook her for one of the kids.

Date: 2007-09-26 01:21 am (UTC)I thought Mrs. Vega looked about her son's age; granted, he looked older than 18 or 19 before the buzz cut, but still, she did not seem not old enough to have children in their late teens, and I was rolling my eyes at the casting.
