The garden is long and the little camera I have here does not have much zoom, but here are a few pictures of the foxes at the bottom of the garden -- those blurry reddish things really are foxes, honest.

I will probably keep taking pictures of them -- I saw three yesterday -- and if I get better ones, I'll post those.

Date: 2007-06-20 03:38 pm (UTC)Actually we used to see a fox in the back garden of the very first flat we ever rented in Oxford, 10 years ago. (It killed our landlady's pet chickens and I ended up burying them for her - long story.) But it was a sad skinny fox. Not all fluffy and cute like these fox babies.

Date: 2007-06-20 04:54 pm (UTC)I am kind of hoping that the foxes are living of the frogs and snails and all that, and not attacking the neighborhood cats.

Date: 2007-06-20 04:26 pm (UTC)I saw a very small wild rabbit on the grounds at work as I was leaving late last night. Much better than the everlasting Canada geese who dominate the local wildlife.

Date: 2007-06-20 04:27 pm (UTC)I've seen several grey foxes here--they're misnamed, since they're actually brindled on the back, with rufous tan underbelly and chest, and black legs, on the hiking trail, on the edges of fallow land. But the only red foxes I've seen locally have been roadkill. I don't know whether I'm sadder or angrier about that.
But you have red foxes! In your garden!

Date: 2007-06-20 04:52 pm (UTC)I think that's exactly what they are -- yesterday morning there were a few out, one of which was larger than these two. These seem to spend the whole day stretched out at the foot of the brambles snuggling and sleeping.
They are so cute!
I think red foxes are just a suburban pest in the UK, though.

Date: 2007-06-20 06:58 pm (UTC)(If they don't chew through your binbags when you put them out for collection, so that the street gets rubbish-strewn, I'm inclined to think that they're not that much of a pest.)

Date: 2007-06-21 03:07 pm (UTC)Racoons are what do that in the US, but they're clever and can get the lid off the garbage can with their little hands. And if that didn't work, they tip them over and roll them down the hill. So not fun!

Never mown your lawn again!
I only ever saw one late at night crossing the streets in front of the taxi I was in.
These are really cute :)
