We spent yesterday watching seven hours of Deadwood: the rest of Season 3. All I have to say about that is that yes, it really is the best show on television. Probably, the best show ever on television.

That kept us up until midnight, and as I was getting ready for bed, I heard a strange noise and went into the living room -- my radio had gone on, for no apparent reason. So I turned it off, but as I was brushing my teeth, I heard it again and yes, it had gone on again. For no reason. With no one in the room. I unplugged it, and we went to sleep, but with the understanding that if it went on again, we would be out of the apartment right away.

That was a little freaky, but my point is that Deadwood was so emotionally draining that I slept perfectly well, even though my radio was possessed. (But as an aside -- my apartment is in an old building, and the lights flicker every now and then; the same is true of our house, because the wiring is a little wonky. Do other SPN watchers find themselves paying a little more attention to this kind of thing, now?)

Oh, god, yes. The light in the hallway outside my apt. flickered for days and I was actually much happier when it went out completely, because it weirded me out less.

And um, better than Homicide? Really?

Yeah, that's "Three Men and Adena." And wow, that's amazing. I was unable to get into the show - I just don't dig Westerns (unless they are in space, apparently).

I know one thing. I am very glad that I am not the mother of a small child, because I would never ever be able to go upstairs alone to check the room with the cot, just as a precautionary measure against ending up glued to the ceiling and in flames. ;-)

That freaked me out the first time we saw it, with Sam and Dean's mother. And the second time. And now it just gives me the chills any time I'm alone late at night in spooky circumstances. Or anytime a character in SPN is, too.

SPN is a show that I really shouldn't watch last thing at night. I'll have to try and manage my downloads accordingly this season and make it mid-evening instead...

Heh. Well, I spent three years at university living here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxhill_House). Could look very spooky when you approached it across campus in the dead of night.

Though it's probably true that the strange skittering noises emanating from the roof were squirrels.

Probably not true. The very gothic shape of the house itself, silhouetted against the night sky, was what sent the shivers down your spine. I never encountered any ghosts in three years there, and while the stained glass window halfway up the main staircase was great, I never really "saw" the alleged devil in it.

The stained glass bat was rather odd though.

Ahahahaha. NOT AT ALL.

I'm going to spring for the Deadwood DVDs in gratitude to the media gods for not having to replace my ThinkPad, which went poof! last week as though zapped by an electromagnetic pulse. The nice IBM/Lenovo guy resurrected it. (What good is it having a backup, by the way, if you've got no system to restore the backup to? These modern questions.)

Oh, yes, I totally agree... I'm so in love with this show!

Sigh. Deadwood. What did you think of the final episode?

I miss the show like crazy. It actually made watching regular network television harder for me - my attention span is zapped.

I've never watched Homicide, but the writer on whose book that was based, David Simon, is also the creator and executive producer of The Wire, my other BEST SHOW ON TV. There's little that comes to touching the daring and genius of The Wire and Deadwood.

Oh, The Wire is spectacular. It's so much more than a procedural, too. I highly recommend it.
