Computer Woe

Just after I updated with my unfinished fic, my hard drive crashed apparently for good. It's now in a shop with some guys poking it to see if anything on it can be recovered. I'm updating from work today, since I had to come in to get a couple things done, but I guess you can take this as a sign that I may not be around so much for the next little while.

And just another note, but I do still need backup writers for the spy_santa Alias ficathon.

I didn't realize you still needed backup writers! I'll chip in for that. I need to get writing something again anyway.

My sympathies on your crash. It's such a pain not to have your computer and all its familiar links, documents, etc. at your disposal.

I think mine is on its way out, too (doesn't want to boot up, so I leave it on 24/7), and my monitor is getting elderly and starting to lose resolution, so I'm starting to look at a new computer before I wake up one morning to find my system dead and my stuff gone.

That sounds like a good plan. I managed to rescue pretty much everything I needed from the machine before it died utterly, but there's still a certain amount of stuff that may be lost forever, and that makes me sad.

I do miss having it around to play with, too.

Oh you SO have my sympathy on the harddrive front. I'm about to rip Radioshack (The Source whatever) a new one or fifty. *wry grin*

It sounds to me like Radio Shack ought to just give you a whole new computer, after all you've been through with your new computer. Isn't there some kind of "lemon law" for these things? If not, there ought to be.

Oh no! I hope that they can at least resurrect some of your stuff for you. Will they attempt to swap out the drive for you, or are you looking at having to purchase another computer? :-(

Well, I'm hoping that they can just replace the drive--they'll try that, anyway--and all will be well. (I'm also hoping that they can salvage some of my photographs and that kind of thing from the old but dead drive.) But if I do have to purchase a new laptop, it's not the end of the world -- I was planning to get a new one this summer, anyway.

Ack! Computer woe is all kinds of frustrating, and that's even before taking the withdrawal pangs into account! I hope you get back everything you'd really like to keep!
