A little icon reorganization

I've finally made a pair of Dunnett-themed that I really like:

I've always loved Dragut's little lesson. Also a Dunnett-themed Sark/Allison icon I think will do:




What this means is that I won't be using the following icons; if anyone would like to use them, let me know in the comments:

I fear, though, that this will all seem very obscure and uninteresting to anyone aside from myself.

Okay, I'm gonna ask: Dunnett, wha? who?

I've heard you mention him (?) and I am curious...

Dorothy Dunnett wrote (among other things) two series of historical novels. First were the Lymond Chronicles, which are about a Scotsman (Francis Crawford of Lymond) and his friends, relatives, enemies and employees--these books (six of them) are set in the 1540s and 1550s and the action ranges from Scotland to France to North Africa to Russia with many stops in between. People either love these books of find them tedious; I love them. They're vivid and romantic and have an excellent sense of place despite the fact that no one, ever, has talked the way Dunnet's characters talk. The first of these is The Game of Kings, followed by Queen's Play, The Disorderly Knights, Pawn in Frankincense, The Ringed Castle and Checkmate. Spot the theme?

I have a bad habit of writing Sark-as-Francis-Crawford. It's hard to resist.

The next series (the House of Niccolo) is chronologically earlier--late fifteenth century--and loosely connected to the Lymond Chronicles. It's about the rise of a merchant banker--these books are more political and less romantic than the Lymond Chronicles, and the main character is a great deal more ambiguous. The first of these is Niccolo Rising, then The Spring of the Ram and there are eight in total.

I recommend both series; they can be hard to get into, but they're very rewarding.
