I am reading all the comments on that post about the metaphysics of Supernatural, and plan to respond to them. I should know better than to posts something involving thought on a Monday, though, as Tuesday is not really a day on which I have much time to think about things which are not work, and today may not be, either.

As if you needed proof that I am scatterbrained: over the summer I bought a pair of low-heeled black pumps for the fall. I wore them a couple times in September and early October, but I have spent the last five weeks or so thinking to myself, "you know, I really should pick up a pair of low black heels for fall." Then today I noticed these shoes peeking out from under my bed and thought "duh!"

Hunh.

A handful of SPN recs:

We Looked Like Giants by [livejournal.com profile] xaara
Summary: “Ma’am,” he says in a voice like dusk. “Ma’am, I’m John Winchester. ‘m looking for William Harvell, and I was told I might find him here.”
PG, pre-series, spoilers to 2x06
My note: I've seen a number of very good stories coming out of the question of what exactly happened between John and the Harvelles. This one of my favorites.

little rattle stilt by [livejournal.com profile] angstslashhope
PG, pre-series, Sam
My note: Sometimes the supernatural is much less frightening than the human; this is one of those times. A beautiful story.

Through me you pass into the city of woe by [livejournal.com profile] ignipes
Summary: Demons lie. It's what they're good at.
PG-13, implied Sam/Dean, post 2x01
My note: As the warning said, the story takes place in hell. The reference to incest didn't bother me, for those who avoid such things, probably because of the context. Chilling and very, very good.

The Sound of Your Voice Speaking My Name by Hossgal
Summary: Dean doesn't want to talk about it.
NC-17, Dean.
My note: Dean through the years and the hours. Beautiful.

Now Ashes Rise in My Footprints by [livejournal.com profile] kattahj
Summary: After Mary's death, John struggles to find a purpose.
PG-13, gen, pre-series
My note: A casefile! Or whatever the SPN equivalent is. And John finding his way into hunting. There's something understated about this story that worked well for me.

And now for something completely different (BSG/FF):

One Yu Bun Duh Planet by [livejournal.com profile] ana_grrl
Summary: Jayne hates this stupid planet and its stupid gorram robots.
PG-13, Jayne and Helo
My note: It has Jayne and Helo on Caprica in BSG S1. What else could you possibly want from life? Aside from grenades and cigars, and this story has them too. Go read it.
