hesychasm happier, 10 things I love about fandom and the shows I watch:
1. The other people. Even when we disagree on which characters are teh hottest, and on more serious things. Do I need to say more about what wonderful people you all are?
2. The variety of other people, particularly the range of age, location and nationality (although my fannish circles remain overwhelmingly female, educated and probably white). I'm perpetually overwhelmed by your liveliness and maturity.
3. Fictional boyfriends. Where would we be without them?
3a. And in particular, Crazy Uncle Arvin. Rarely has an ambiguously evil character made me smile quite so much.
4. Meta. I know I overthink everything, but I love knowing that other people overthink it too.
5. Joss. Yeah, I bitch about Buffy and Angel but Joss Whedon, with the actors, writers and production team he's assembled, has brought me many, many hours of TV happiness.
6. Multifannishness. Yeah, I know, it's the new black. I like black, too.
7. Kick-ass female characters.
8. And flowing somewhat naturally from that, news of a Farscape miniseries!
8b. I really wanted to write that last one in all caps with a lot of exclamation points.
9. Feedback. I even get a little ping of pleasure at the response from the author when I send feedback, which is a sign that I should send more feedback. It's the glue that holds us together.
10. Flamewars. I know this makes me strange, and it isn't the flamewars themselves but the way you laugh at them during and afterward with your friends. Or anyway, the way I do. This probably makes me a bad person, as well as a strange one.
So there you have it. As with the unpopular opinions, your mileage may vary.
