The Jack and Arvin show! Be still my beating heart! Yeah, I know there were a few other people in it, but I wasn't really paying attention to them.
Things I adored: Jack's slow-motion entrance and long glare at Lindsey. That was his "I'm going to kill you and eat your liver" look.
Jack's storage locker of wonders. And he has more? More cash? More weaponry? I fear that Jack has been a very bad cop in the past. Perhaps he skimmed off the top all those years he was working for SD-6? Because--and this is just an instinct--I really doubt that Dixon has a bag of toys like that. That's just not normal. It will take me time to figure out just what the HELL is up with Jack. Because if that wasn't a honking big sign that something is UP, I don't know what would be.
I loved seeing Jack, Vaughn and Sloane all breaking into FEMA together.* And then they shot Crazy Uncle Arvin! Bad FEMA people! Bad! But Jack saved him with much many surgery, and cute glasses. That was even better than cheery-repairman!Jack.

Like Jack, I found Vaughn tolerable here. He did a good job following Jack's orders. As for Lauren... it all just seems so predictable. Sorry. I wasn't really surprised by anything she did in the episode, although I was impressed by the job MG did in that final scene, where she shoots a man. She looked so miserable. I was pleased that Vaughn didn't make a big deal about her change of heart--at any rate, if he did it happened offscreen. I'm a little tired of Lauren being the whipping-girl for not seeing the wonder that is Sydney Bristow, but that might just be me.
By the way: are the three musketeers and their little friends all on the run from the Law at the moment? It seems logical: the can hardly return to the LA office, so long as Lindsey is in charge there.
In retrospect, I'm not sure I can see the whole thing as a Sloane setup. Would he really put Sydney in danger of irreversible brain damage? It was a close call, at the end. But he's the winner in the great cui bono sweepstakes this week: he gets ever closer to Jack and Sydney. For the record, I believe that he both has an ulterior motive and sincerely wants their friendship and forgiveness. Why shouldn't he? Emily forgave him, after all.
All in all, I liked the episode: it moved and felt like it was building toward something. Perhaps that something will have Sark in it? Although if it has more of that lovely Jack and Arvin action, I might not even notice. Jack had all the best lines tonight.
*although there were some oddities: Vaughn as tech guy, especially. But Vaughn's spy skills seem to expand to suit the necessities of the moment.
More thoughts on Jack tomorrow or later in the week, I suspect. Where did he get all that stuff?

That was my initial thought. Either obtained through SD-6 or he saved every penny of the (most likely) extravagant salary he brought in from SD-6, and instead of buying himself say, a villa in France, he made sure he had an armory.
In retrospect, I'm not sure I can see the whole thing as a Sloane setup.
At the end of the episode, when Sloane looked back at Jack and Sydney, the hubby and I both agreed that we've fallen hook line and sinker for Sloane's "redemption" play. I don't know what to think of him anymore... There are so many interesting ways this could play out, and I am thinking the most interesting path is the one that keeps Sloane on the side of Jack and Sydney and not as the Big Bad.

Date: 2003-11-24 10:49 am (UTC)My first inclination is to think of it as a kind-of Earthquake Kit for a SuperSpy. A "just in case" type of thing. I keep wondering if Irina said something to Jack during their time together -- or perhaps she helped outfit the place using her resources?
It is definitely making me wonder. He could certainly be running his own game -- he and Arvin certainly went right back into routine when planning Sydney's extraction. He knows how to work outside the CIA's purview.

I woke up this morning laughing because it came back to me all of a sudden--Arvin's lying supine on the filing cabinet or whatever (okay, he's got a gunshot wound, but he's still pretty talkative) and Jack's over there searching for a leather strap and Arvin says "Don't get any ideas."

Maybe Jack and Sloane and Bill Vaughn all did some operation together in their field days, scored a big cash flow, and have been riding it ever since . . .
Now I wonder if one of those storage facilities houses some Sydney outfits. I'm just trying to picture Jack stocking up on provocative lacey underthings.
And yes, word to all the Jack and Arvin and Vaughn goodness!
