How could I resist?

1. I don't like Tori Amos. At all. It's like cats howling in the backyard as far as I'm concerned.
2. Baseball is dull. Cricket is much better, although it goes on for five days.
3. I do not intend to see Love, Actually. I can handle most of the actors in it on their own, but not all together in a “new British comedy!” deal.
4. Also, I do not think that the guy on Spooks, Tom Quinn, is all that hot or interesting.
5. Look, the deal is, we went to war in Iraq, and we're going to have to pay the bill. If you didn't approve of the war, take it out on Bush at the next election, not on the Iraqi people by cutting the reconstruction budget or making it a loan they can't repay.
6. Education is priceless.
7. Cicero actually was the noblest Roman of them all; Brutus was a hypocritical bore.
8. Stargate SG-1 just isn't all that interesting. I've tried and tried to watch it, and I can't sit through an entire episode.
9. Spike a much better character before the whole chip/soul/Buffy experience.
10. Actually, I don't like any of Buffy's relationships; that cookie dough metaphor was spot-on. But Riley was OK.

And there you have it. You do all know the definition of opinion, right?

I think the ads for "Love, Actually" look like a bunch of people at Miramax or wherever had a meeting wherein they decided that it had been long enough since the last chick movie to make money off another, and that a script was slapped together and the Usual Chick Movie Suspects were rounded up to appear in it. The only thing that would cause me to see it is Rowan Atkinson's appearance in it.

Huh. Ten opinions you have that you see as unpopular? You run into a lot of people who think #6 is unpopular. That's disturbing. I have to say, I adore the range of your opinions.

And aw, right now Prophecy Girl is on FX. This episode messes with me every time I see it.

1 -- Some of her stuff I quite like, and I blame Neil Gaiman for pointing me to her. Some of it, I would like more if it were shorter, and some is simply too strange for me.
2 -- No comment either way. My preferred sports to watch are gymnastics, ice skating, and volleyball. (Football, US or UK, bores me. I took Gaudy Night to the Ole Miss homecoming game...)
3 -- Ditto, and no interest in Master and Commander, either.
4 -- Haven't seen it, no comment.
5 -- I was against the damn war, still am, but yeah. We broke it; we pay for it. That simple. I just wish the politicians had considered that when this started. And I still want every member of the House and the Senate who voted to give Bush permission to start a war thrown out of office for violating their sworn oath to uphold the Constitution. That was specifically a power for the Legislative branch, not the Executive. I don't go so far as to call it treason, but it was awfully damn close, to my mind. ::grim:: And there were certainly two witnesses to it all...
6 -- Yes. No argument. And if we're going to let manufacturing jobs move *out* of the country, we need to educate those remaining *in* the country. Otherwise, we're all screwed. (Though of late, I have the Keynes' quote in my head about, "In the long run, we're all of us dead.")
7 -- Don't know enough to comment.
8 -- First season was kind of fun, but not enough to get me to buy more of the series.
9 -- I liked Spike throughout, honestly, and thought he and Tara were, in their separate ways, two of the most adult characters on the show.
10 -- Early Angel/Buffy I quite liked. ;-> Completely agree on the cookie dough, and thought it was one of the best things about the finale, which is saying something. Couldn't stand Riley though, sorry. The whole Initiative thing seemed awfully lame.

::cheerful:: Also opinions, but you know me well enough to know that, right?

Will have to cede to your greater knowledge on cricket, Spooks, Cicero, Buffy, and Spike.

Everything else I agree with, so I don't know how "unpopular" those opinions are. :)

"David Duchovny can't act" didn't make the final cut because I couldn't bear the stress of it.

I would have agreed with that, too. But I do understand your reluctance to say it; I knew any list of unpopular opinions of mine that *didn't* mention my dislike of the Haven would be a cop-out, but I still wussed out and locked it.

It seems unfair.

It's not, though, because it was my choice. If I was feeling ballsy, I would have left it unlocked. I'm still debating doing so.

Word, word, WORD! Can't stand her.

See now I was about to propose marriage until I saw this - cricket. Soooo dull. ;)

Hunh. Don't they take away your Australian citizenship for saying stuff like that?

It's funny - when I was in the UK I would tell people I was Australian and they would either ask me about Neighbours (Australian TV show popular in the UK) or the cricket - with the guys it was mostly cricket - and I wouldn't have a clue how to answer. I'd be like, "Oh - are we playing are we?"

I don't like cricket but I'd watch cricket over Australian Rules Football ANY DAY.

Yeah, the whole "5 days" part is what kills it for me. I'd rather watch grass grow. Plus, who wears sweaters when they play sports in the hot sun? I don't even want to think about what they smell like afterwards.

Also, I do not think that the guy on Spooks, Tom Quinn, is all that hot or interesting.

Just this afternoon, I googled Tom Quinn to see what he looks like. I am in total agreement with you on this one. He's not hot. He's not even lukewarm.

Um, hi. Found you through [livejournal.com profile] mciac; I don't write fiction, but I do like Alias, 24, Classics and even Cicero. I hope you won't mind that I added you; no obligation to reciprocate.

Anyway, apropos of no. 1, from a meme I found on my friendslist, "Ten Commandments for Postmodern Living":

6.) Thou shalt listen to Unsigned Bands Only. And Tori Amos.

The others can be found here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/burkean/256532.html)

Also, it's amusing to know someone fannish in Oxford, now that I've escaped
I kind of don't count as an actual Oxonian - I'm only here doing research for this term. Normally I live in NJ (school) or Canada (home).

I've only been attending seminars at whim, if the topics interest me sufficiently to warrant leaving the library. Don't think I've been to the Lang&Lit one.
