The AO3 uploader hasn't been working for me recently for LJ (I understand that this is a general problem), so I have been uploading some old fic from my webpage, which does not work as smoothly but does work. This mostly means some older XF fic -- and of course I reread as I go. I had forgotten how frequently I used the Balkans as a setting (although it was generally justifiable for plot of character-related reasons); I didn't post one or two things last week, because of the news about Radovan Karadzic. It just seemed weird and tacky.

I am also remembering my issues the X-Files. Wow, do I have issues; I can't even watch an episode now. Anyway, the short version is that although I kept watching, canon and I parted company definitively after Two Fathers/One Son: nothing after that made any sense to me at all, and frankly, given how little sense most of the stuff that happened before then made, that's pretty damning.

The next thing I think I should post is Parallel Catastrophes (which for those of you who joined this journal after 2003 or so is a crossover between XF and Harry Potter in which WMM is Pansy Parkinson's grandfather and Marita Covarrubias and Narcissa Malfoy are sisters. Obviously, this was all before OOtP came out.) The problem is that there's a huge plotty story which I have never posted, because I don't like how it starts, and I haven't even looked at it in a couple of years -- but it needs to be there to make the fragment I wrote back when I did that big crossover meme.

Like Rhi, I'll add a plural, since there may be more than one, and add that my OTPs may be gen.

::grins:: I'm over here doing housework and thinking about the two you gave me. Meanwhile, that said, how about Highlander and Greek/Roman myth?

Hm. This is hard, because I don't think of Greek myth as a fandom - and Roman myth is worked though history, so it all lumps into the past for me. And obviously this is harder, because Methos was there for chunks of it. And so were the other Horsemen, and Rebecca. So there are all the Methos -> Prometheus lines of thought, or Methos -> Metis -> Odysseus (which identification is part of my persona fandom. So I guess Methos/Penelope?) But I tend to keep the others in a Near Eastern fremework, in my mind.

While on the subject of the Trojan War, Duncan/Hector, but Hector's death would break Duncan's heart and I wouldn't want to do that to him.

My brain has just exploded! But if this is about OTPs, surely my OTP is Methos/Granny Weatherwax. I mean, isn't that everyone's OTP?

And that wasn't a criticism, really -- I just had to realize realized that my mythological backstructure to HL has almost nothing to do with Greek mythology!

It wasn't that I took it as criticism but as 'You want me to what?' :shrugs: Memes are supposed to be fun.

Methos/Granny Weatherwax? EEP. (Also? Ruling the world already.)

It's not so much the "ruling the world" thing as the sense that' they'd really enjoy doing so with each other that makes this such a great pairing.

Plus, Granny Weatherwax needs to not be the really old one.

How about X-Files and Doctor Who?

I feel like my poor knowledge of Doctor Who is letting me down here, because I bet that there is an older Doctor who would be a perfect match for Scully -- not in a romantic way, necessarily, but Scully needs someone who is not Mulder around whom she can relax, you know? And I don't see that with any of the newer Doctors. Although Scully/Nine would be an interesting pairing, at least in a postapocalyptic way. In fact, I may need to think about that some more.

It took me almost ten years to go back and re-watch XF episodes, mainly my favourites from S3-S6. Having put it behind me for a long time (and making no personal effort to tie together the mythology), it was an enjoyable experience. I was actually pleasantly surprised how well the show held up over the years.

Every now and then I see an episode when I'm channel-surfing, and I still get a very visceral reaction and have to click past. I think I might get over it if I made a point of sitting down and watching some of it, but really, I actually shudder when I see it.

I mean, this is totally my problem, and not to do with the quality of the show -- I know that!
