The requisite post-Alias commentary:

...and it was good.

1. OK, I'm probably going to the Sarkfan doghouse, but I didn't miss him. I don't see quite where he would have fit into the story.

2. And anyway, there was Jack. Victor Garber should never, ever again have facial hair. Ever. Please.

3. And the thought that Jack and Irina really did work together during Sydney's absence. Canon, baby.

4. I would be remiss as well if I didn't mention Weiss 2.0, who seems to be doing very well for himself. Yeah, now that Marshall's going to be a father (and how cute was that?) I guess it's Syd/Weiss for me.

4a. And I agree--that guard who was about to kill Weiss totally recognized Syd.

5. Because really, if I never see Vaughn and Syd onscreen together again, it will be too soon. I was just full of irritation at both of them. I know that's unfair, and I think I'll get over it. But right now I'm not feeling very sympathetic to either of them. (I loved the moment in Hong Kong, though, when Sydney decided that it couldn't possibly be Vaughn and attacked him. Otherwise, the rational thought speech left me cold.)

6. Sloane? The philanthropist? That cracked me up. I do hope that Uncle Arvin is still up to no good, though. My guess is that I won't be disappointed. Uncle Arvin is still crazy as they come.

7. And the parallels. How I love a show that assumes that some of the fans are paying attention. I so enjoyed the parallels with the S1 opener: it was the exact same pattern, although much compressed. And the hug at the end between Sydney and Jack reminded me of nothing so much as the Syd/Vaughn clinch at the end of Phase One. Except that this was about the relationship that really matters.

More comments to be added as I think of them.

Like this: I am deeply, deeply amused by the number of LJ entries that feature the question "Where was Sark?" so prominently.

No, I didn't either. I was, however, very annoyed when he didn't even show up in the previews for future episodes. Le sigh.

I had been warned ahead of time that Sark wasn't going to be in this ep (although I did half expect Weiss to tell Sydney to look him up, not Sloane), but yeah, I don't see how there was time for him. This was Sydney pulling her world back into some semblance of order and it needed to be done before anything else can happen. Other than the overly-long sequence on the train, the entire episode was Syd's POV and I really don't see Sark on Syd's list of priorities just then.
