I should be working. Instead, I've been making Sark answer questions.
ageofaquarius sent me some very cool questions for Kick/Face Sark.
The answers are as follows. The two stories can be found here (Kick) and here (Face).
Let's get the basics out of the way.
Q: Age and last residence:
Twenty-three.
Or did you mean the age of my last residence? In any case, I suppose that my last permanent residence was one of Irina Derevko's bases, on the coast of Thailand. I'm afraid I can't be more specific than that, and I certainly can't tell you how long the base has been in operation.
Q: How old are you?
I believe that I just answered that question.
Q: What's your God-given first name?
Sark: I don't believe in God.
Me: Answer the question.
Sark: I would prefer not to.
Me: You know, Deslea wrote an X-Files/Teletubbies crossover once. Don't think that that kind of thing might not happen to you.
Sark: You're bluffing. [pause] Oh, very well. Eamonn.
Q: How many languages do you speak?
The usual European languages--French, Italian, Spanish, German. Russian. Egyptian Arabic. Turkish. Cantonese. Thai. Greek. I can get along in various others--Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hebrew, a few Turkic dialects, Malay, Tagalog.
Q: Who were your parents? Are you in contact with either one of them?
My mother is dead; I never knew my father. I would prefer not to disclose my mother's name or background.
Q: Were you at any time a part of either Project Christmas or the Russian version of said program?
You don't think that such programs were limited to the Russians and the Americans, do you? I received intensive training from an early age.
Ambitions
Q: Do you see yourself heading your own organization?
At some point, yes.
Q: Will you still work with Irina Dereveko? Or Arvin Sloane?
Of course, if it seems necessary.
Q: Do you believe in the teachings of Rambaldi? If so, why? If not, why?
It would be foolish, at this stage, to deny that Rambaldi's creations have power. I am not certain that it follows that Rambaldi had some kind of master plan which we can or should be acting out; indeed, if it should be the case that Rambaldi was attempting to direct our actions in the present, I would see him as a threat which should be opposed rather than a teacher whose works should be studied.
Q: Do you consider lying to loved ones a serious offense or a necessary part of what you are involved in?
I suspect that there are very few relationships which entail complete honesty; in my own experience, for example, a woman who asks you how she looks does not want an honest answer. In my line of work, a certain amount of deception is not unusual, and I would hardly see it as a serious offense.
Story-Related
Q: How did you feel about the cloning program that changed A.G Doren into Francine Calfo?
She never became Francine Calfo: she merely took on the appearance of of Ms. Calfo.
As for the cloning program... ingenious, I suppose.
Q: Why didn't you tell Allison the truth about her situation?
What purpose would it have served?
In my role as her handler, my imperative was to keep her alive and effective; it was my opinion that the knowledge of her true situation would have interfered with her effectiveness.
Q: How do you feel about Allison?
I am of course pleased that she is still alive.
I find myself thinking about her more frequently than I expected to. And I find that I... miss her. That may have more to do with my own current situation than with Allison herself.
Q: How do you feel about Sydney after she attempted to kill Allison?
I admit that I'm relieved not to be in her company. Of course I understand that in such situations one does what one must, and that Sydney would have felt shock and betrayal when she learned the truth.
At least she didn't succeed. That counts for something.
Personal
Q: What frightens you the most?
The loss of self-control.
Q: When all that you've been involved in is finished, where do you see yourself ending up?
I don't think I'm involved in something which will, at some point, be finished: that seems an odd way to look at one's life. Of course I hope that I'll get out of the game before I'm killed--but that's what every operative hopes for. We don't all make it.
That said, my writer tells me that Bora Bora is nice this time of year.
Q: When are you the happiest/at ease?
When I'm in control.
Q: Involved with anyone currently?
No.
Q: Current place of residence:
A CIA holding cell. And I might add that I'm more than ready for a change of scenery.
Q: Any parting thoughts?
A question. What will these answers be used for?
That was great fun, for me anyway. Sark looks rather disconcerted by the whole experience.

Heeheehee! How... revealing, really.

Date: 2003-09-17 04:33 pm (UTC)I found it interesting that this Sark was so protective of certain kinds of information, especially regarding his own background.
I'm rather glad he didn't call my bluff, though.

Date: 2003-09-18 05:31 am (UTC)Although there are worse things than Teletubbies. You could, for example, have upped the ante and threatened him with the Tweenies.

Date: 2003-09-17 04:20 pm (UTC)Hee. What will these answers be used for indeed. I don't blame him for his paranoia one bit. *g*

Date: 2003-09-17 04:35 pm (UTC)I'm thinking hard about questions for Jack, too, but I really must get back to work.

Date: 2003-09-17 05:02 pm (UTC)I am totally up for anything that disconcerts Sark. *g*

Date: 2003-09-17 05:42 pm (UTC)*rotfl* And people wonder why he might be paranoid?
As for Sark's answers... Interesting mix of careful avoidance, subtle distancing, and rather terse honesty. He seems to have Irina's talent for responding to (though not necessarily answering) a question without revealing anything he doesn't intend to. Sounds just like him. *g*.

Date: 2003-09-17 08:23 pm (UTC)I'm glad Sark seemed himself to you--that's really the highest praise I can imagine.
Heh
Date: 2003-09-17 05:43 pm (UTC)Now, what will these be used for?
Sark, I'd be remiss in my evil plan to reveal all. You understand, don't you?
Me next! LOL.

Date: 2003-09-17 05:59 pm (UTC)Sure. Sark seems to be talkative today. Rather or not it'll stay the same--it's hard to say. He will answer your questions though. He'd better.

Date: 2003-09-17 05:47 pm (UTC)Poor baby.
The answers sounded just like him. Slightly formal, secretive, and with just a hint of humor.
Teletubbies, though . . . I'm glad he didn't call you bluff, too.

Date: 2003-09-17 08:21 pm (UTC)Thanks--that's the nicest response I could have received.
And it probably wouldn't have been Teletubbies. But it would have been something unpleasant and humiliating. I don't recall whether you've read Reginald Hill, but he has a character (Andy Dalziel) who makes an effective threat against pretty much everyone else.

Date: 2003-09-17 09:44 pm (UTC)A bit of honesty with a dash of evasiveness and a dose of the snark...
Fantastic stuff :)

Sure it's not Kermit?

Date: 2003-09-18 04:01 pm (UTC)LOL. He was lucky I didn't go for anything worse than Eamonn. But that would have taken research.
