I saw the final episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in (near-enough) real time!

First and foremost, everything to do with Sam and Bucky, and Sam/Bucky, was an absolute delight. I 100% believe in their love for each other and presume that they have shacked up together on the boat, at least whenever Sarah isn't using it, and that Sam takes Bucky to all his family events and Sarah's kids know him as their other uncle, etc. etc. etc. There was a lot of soulful gazing into the distance together there, is what I'm saying.

In some other world, this would be actual text, rather than totally deniable fanservice. Then again, the whole show was entirely chaste, as far as I can remember.

I half-liked the scenes with Isaiah Bradley, and half-thought that the last scene in particlular was more about making Sam's choices look more justified; I liked their interactions more when it seemed like Sam understood why Isaiah felt the way he did & agreed that it was right for him, but also felt that Isaiah's way wasn't the right way for him.

In many other respects, the writing and plotting was really really hopeless. The characterisation for Walker and Karli was both completely all over the place in the last episode; so Karli swung between being a ruthless murderer in one scene and a reluctant freedom fighter in another, and Walker just decided to ditch his revenge-spree halfway through the episode to pal around with Bucky, who was apparently OK with that. And then I guess at the end we're supposed to see Karli's death as tragic (I actually middedthat she died, somehow -- I thought she was still alive when Sam brought her out?) and Walker as... redeemed? Heroic but just not up to Captin America levels? Of the two, I actually thought Karli was the more interesting character, so I'm sorry we won't be seeing more of her & the other flagsmashers, since Zemo killed them. Whereas Walker could have been a really great tragic character and I feel like they basically backed down from that.

But then, I actually think that the post-snap worldbuilding is kind of interesting. At least some of the time: the snap itself is monumentally dumb, but dealing with the repercussions of half the planet being 5 years off the other half and also kind of depressed about it is interesting.

Meanwhile, I was very surprised to find that I was actually right when I said Sharon was the Power Broker! I love that! I really want her whole backstory where she's left to fend for herself and becomes a secretive master criminal. I loved that Senator Whoever called her Agent Carter at the end, and then she gets an evil powerwalk and an evil phone call! I'll be sad when this leads to her inevitable betrayal and defeat, but in the meantime I am completely here for Sharon who was dicked over by the system once too often and decided to ensure that would never happen again.

(OTOH having Sharon and Karli end up basically evil, and Walker get some kind of redemption, was a rather questionable writing choice, I feel.)

Right. It's late, and I am probably not making much sense. I have a couple long things to rec, but maybe next post.
