My mom is OK (so far, thank G-d), and I am so grateful that she lives in San Francisco and is surrounded by people who are looking after her: she has friends who take her shopping or go for her, and her neighbors are stress-cooking and keep passing food over the fence for her. She is perpetually amazed by how quiet everything is. We talk every day on Facetime. The main issue is that she's a very social person and she's bored -- she doesn't really understand how online stuff works, or how to make it work, so for example she managed one Zoom book club meeting (I think!) but doesn't want to try again. And her internet is not fast enough to make streaming a viable option (and also she has never been much of a TV watcher).
My birthday came at the very start of all this, so I baked a cake and we had pizza delivered. It wasn't bad, all things considered.
