I'm enjoying this show, for a couple of reasons. First of all, it's a post-apocalypse, which has always been one of my favorite genres. Also, I never know when the show is going to pull its punches and hold out for the happy ending, like the whole corn-harvesting scene last week, or not having the father just die this week. And yet is can still manage the odd moment of real emotion -- the IRS woman's grief at the loss of her entire world. I love this show's crazy obviousness, and the fact that it might still manage to get to some very dark places.
I don't quite understand why there's some kind of master criminal hanging out with his gang at the edge of town, but whatever. And I still don't care enough about the show to know anyone's name, although that might be changing soon enough. The show has a lot of fic potential.
And finally -- so they blew up Lawrence, but not Topeka? Nobody -- and I mean nobody -- gets a prize for knowing where my mind went.
I'm interested to see how far they push things -- sure, New York wasn't blown up, but what are all those people eating? If there's no power, how are they living?
I can see myself becoming more and more interested in this universe. Once I learn all the characters' names, anyway.
Also -- it's November 2, and I still haven't signed up for Yuletide. I still haven't even thought about what I'll request or offer. And I still have about 20 exams to mark and a lecture to write. Wish me luck, guys!
