I'm not sure I have anything of great interest to say here, but maybe something will come to me. Anyway,

Could Helo be any more stupid? Sorry, I just feel I have to say this. I can't quite shake the feeling that Sharon isn't quite sharing the whole story with him -- for example, she tells him that the crew don't see her as a person -- which is close to true -- but neglects to remind him that the Cylons don't see humans as being real people either. Each side is quite content to kill the other.

And I don't quite know what I think about the "We know more about your gods than you do" line, because I'm not sure that the Cylons can know more about the Colonial gods. How would they have learned whatever it is they think they know? And as the Cylons believe that they're false gods, can we trust them to interpret information about the Colonial gods accurately? I'm actually more and more frustrated by the representation of Colonial religion in the show, but I think that's because I want it to look like an actual polytheistic religion, and in particular like a classical Mediterranean religion, whereas instead it looks like a Christianized version of what such a religion might look like. Which is what you'd expect the writers to come up with, but I'd prefer a polytheistic religion on its own terms, rather than seen through a monotheistic lens, because I think (within the terms of the story) it privileges the Cylon viewpoint, and I'm uncomfortable with that.

I really loved the family reunion. Love! Adama and his children, in particular. And the scene between Roslin and Billy -- I liked that Adama took him along, because Adama is no idiot. And it reassures me to see Roslin and Adama presenting a united front. But Roslin herself... all is not right, there. She was clearly in pain during the march to the Tomb of Athena, and it might simply be her cancer, but it might be something else. There was a bit of sense at the very end that she'd come full circle, at the very end, standing there for the applause, but this isn't the same Laura Roslin who became president during the miniseries. She has a mission now, and she's alone with it -- and I don't think she understands it herself.

The way they handled the map to Earth worked for me (although would a nebula be recognizable from two different angles? ::handwaves::) and I rather hope that we'll see some debate about whether they should head stright for Earth or go back and try to rescue some of the people left in the colonies.

In fact, in general the Kobol sequence worked very well, although I feel a bit sad that one could immediately pick out the people who were going to die in the course of the episode. Although Zarek's henchman has "Dead Meat" written on him from the moment he suggested killing Apollo.

The end felt a bit rushed, but to be honest I think it was time to bring this particular plotline to some kind of close -- It looked a bit like they were trying to reset the clock, but considering how much the characters have changed, even since the middle of the last season, that won't be possible. I wouldn't mind a return to a slightly more episodic story pattern, though -- and if I think this, given my love of story arc, I think it must be time.

Anyway, it's late here and I've been posting rather a lot as it is. Enough already.
