So. Alias. Spoilers.
I've suddenly realized why I so loathe Syd and Vaughn this season--they seem so emotionally dishonest. The breakup scene and then the scene in the helicopter embodied this perfectly for me: if Vaughn could simply have said, "I'm sorry, I married you but I'm in love with Sydney, and because of that I cannot stay married to you," I would have understood and respected that. And if he could have said something similar to Sydney, or she to him, I would have respected that. But why should I want them to be happy when they don't seem to want to be happy? They're content to wallow in their misery, but all that wallowing is just dull. Dull, dull, DULL.
Right. Onwards and upwards. Why was Sark so discomfited when Bomani killed the guy who was helping him? It's not like Sark wasn't all about killing innocent children last week, or anything. Hello, inconsistent characterization.
Back to the realm of the stupid: my understanding is that if you need pressurized air, it's because you'll get the bends if you don't have it and surface too quickly. By that time I would have been very happy to see Vaughn and Sydney writhing in horrific pain, but perhaps I was alone in this.
Lauren had to kill her father! At Sark's urging, since Sark is all about killing people's relatives, just not random people who might incriminate him. But shouldn't her father have realized that she was there to kill him by the black suit she was wearing? It practically screamed "evil and here to kill you!"
So mother Reed is Covenant as well? How sweet, and at least it explains Lauren's involvement. I hope we see more of her. I hope we see more of Jack watching both of them like a hawk. Because please, I hope he wasn't fooled by that little story. The Reeds really are the anti-Bristows, aren't they. And is there any plotline in this show that isn't about the nuclear family at its heart?
Since Sloane, obviously enough, won't be dying by lethal injection in two weeks (at least I hope not! I need him to be in my Homer reading group!) I think we should open a pool on how he gets out. My bet is that Marshall realizes that he'd get to build cooler toys as an evil genius, springs Sloane with some high-tech stuff, and they go off to rule the world together. And taunt Jack and Sydney on a regular basis.
There ought to be more to say...
melymbrosia must be correct in pointing out that Mother Reed is the missing third Derevko sister. I wonder whether she's really in the Covenant or is Irina's mole within it? Of course, given the wretched inattention to logic which dogs this season, Irina will probably turn out to be in charge of the Covenant in the end.
Sloane did perk up when they mentioned Rambaldi to him, didn't he? He's so cute. And I did like Sydney's line about smiling at his execution, although she's just been nails-on-the-chalkboard to me otherwise.
Oh, and did they have to resurrect the voice-capture trick from last season? (or was it S1? or have they done it more than once?)
All in all, it felt a bit flat, but that might have just been the focus on Sydn and Vaughn, and oh my goodness, did we mention that Lauren is EVIL? and a BAD WIFE? Grumble.
Now I need to go dream about Jack paying little visits to Sloane in his cell. Yes. That will cheer me right up.
