aside from watching the Olympics...
Aug. 13th, 2012 02:24 pm...I have:
* signed up for an ASOIAF fanfic exchange and started to write. Unfortunately the story I've started to write is looking like it may be long, and I am not entirely sure where it will go. But there is another prompt I know I can write well and quickly if this story goes to hell in a handbasket.
* spent a rather surprising amount of time admiring my new fridge, which is smaller but nicer than my old fridge. It is also significantly colder than my old fridge, despite claiming to be about a degree warmer; I am starting to wonder if my old fridge had been lying to me for years. Given that my old fridge was a terrible terrible fridge, I would not be surprised at all.
* read that article in German that I've been putting off. Very slowly. I don't suppose that anyone on my friends list would like to confirm that Forderungsverlust means "the abandonment of a (legal) claim"? This is the kind of word that never seems to make it into my dictionaries. But can "das klare Gegenteil" be rendered in English by "the exception that proves the rule"? I suspect not. Anyway, although a slow read, it was quite worthwhile, despite not providing exactly the argument I needed.
* enjoyed the bits of summer we've had. I think that the excessive cold and wet we had from March to July means that most of our tomatoes won't have time to ripen, though. I guess there's a lot of chutney in my future, although I am wondering whether green cherry tomatoes could be pickled whole. But we'll have apples by the bucketload, and already have plenty of lettuce.
* no doubt done some other stuff I ought to be able to remember, if only it had been interesting enough. Alas.
