on naming names
Jul. 14th, 2006 10:14 amI've set up a space over at Vox; my hands hesitated over the keyboard while I was choosing a name. My livejournal is only
vaznetti because Vanzetti was taken, but such is the power of the username that I suspect most of you think of me as Vaznetti first. Would it be confusing to revert to Vanzetti over on Vox? Should I choose some other name altogether, so that I could use that for more RL related stuff? But then, for blogging purposes I'm pretty out. I mean, I wrote my yuletide story last year on vacation with my parents. My husband has started to make fanfic requests. The people I'm close to at work know that I'm a geek, and it wouldn't be a big deal if they found out about the fanfic, I suspect. I'm not out about it to everyone, but it's not relevant in all social or professional situations.
I still don't want someone to find Vanzetti or Vaznetti by googling my real name, but that seems unlikely, as I don't associate my real name with these identities. (Someone who knows
vaznetti could ID me without trouble, though; but people who know only
vaznetti are likely to be complicit in the fannish enterprise in any case.)
I haven't done anything with the Vox account yet, but I will say that I'm not much taken with the setup. Too many pictures; I am a text girl, first and foremost. I can't see posting fiction there. I like livejournal for fannish interaction. It works pretty well. But who knows, someday I might want one of those blogs where you post your holiday pictures, and that might be what Vox is for. And when that day comes, the path from there to here will be short indeed.
