quick recommendation
May. 2nd, 2006 10:18 amWhile I was away I had this terrible craving for long, plotty Krycek fic. There were two problems: I wasn't in a position to do any fanfic reading and I had absolutely no inspiration myself. So I was particularly happy to come back and find the first "book" of Joann's Consequential Loss.
Every now and then you read a mytharc story and think, "Oh, yes, this was what Season 8 should have been like." This is one of those stories: it has everything that made the show great without the nonsense. The characters are very much themselves: Mulder is as brilliant and fucked up as he was at his best, Scully is strong and determined, Skinner shows some initiative and Krycek has a crazy plan which... well, I think we all know what happens when Krycek has a plan.
The story breaks from canon just before the end of Requiem, but uses the early S8 mytharc to good effect. It's a Mulder-story (and I'm recommending it? I know!), and it ends in something of a cliffhanger. Book 2 is apparently in progress.
