Giving xenophobia a bad name since 2002
Nov. 21st, 2004 01:25 pmIf you've ever wondered why the Greeks as a modern nation have the reputation for being absolutely, positively bat-shit crazy (as they do in my household), this kind of thing is why. It's not just the proposed lawsuit, and the bizarre misunderstanding of classical Greek culture it entails.* It's also that throw-away reference to an attack by a mob on an academic conference. Nobody should take ancient history that seriously.
The Fandom Wank entry on this is moderately amusing, at least for the earnest wankery contained within it on the nature of Greek homosexuality and the "Greekness" (or not) of the ancient Macedonians.
*And of course, the irony of the modern insistence that Macendonia is Greek.
