Jul. 15th, 2004 02:46 pmAs usual, my return to Oxford is marked by lots and lots of culture. Tuesday we finally saw Prisoner of Azkaban. It was huge fun, by far the best of the three made so far. As you all already know, hunh? Also, the B.H. finally admitted that Prof. Snape is his role model. I have long suspected this. (And quiet in the back. Oxford undergrads eat this stuff up.)
Last night we rented Underworld. Um. B.H. said that it was no more nonsensical than your average Alias episode. Actually, if Alias were about werewolves and vampires instead of Rambaldi, it would be Underworld.
And this evening--Spiderman! Yay!
The King Arthur movie hasn't opened in Oxford yet, but we're looking forward to it. For all the wrong reasons, sadly--it looks deeply silly, and I caught a moment or two of Keira Knightly on some interview going on and on about how "women really were warriors back then and no one know about this!" every inch of her quivering with honesty. It reminded my of a short-lived sketch show on BBC2 called We Are History. "King Arthur pulled the sword from the stone--fact!" We will be giggling and muttering "Fact!" rather a lot, I fear.
Also, since Arthur is a Pelasgian in this, we're looking forward to some nice discussion of predestination. B.H. feels that 5th century heresies don't get nearly the screentime they deserve.
On the airplane I finally read the latest Atwood--Oryx and Crake. It would have been better if there had been characters in it.
