5 Songs That Inspire Fic
"Gunning for the Buddha" by Shriekback.
"Language or the Kiss" by the Indigo Girls.
"Red Vines" by Aimee Mann.
"Acrobat" by U2.
"Kathy's Song" by Simon and Garfunkel.
Four Songs That Make You Think of a Particular Character
"Fugitive" by the Indigo Girls, is my Marita song of the moment, and indeed of all time. The lyrics are really perfect. (...well we swore to ourselves we'd go to the end of the world but I got caught up in the whirl and the twirl of it all a day in the sun dancing alone and baby I'm so sorry now...)
"Deathly" by Aimee Mann reminds me of Mulder. So does "Driving Sideways," from the same album.
"Mystery" by the Indigo Girls is a great Krycek song, except for one line. But I still make the association. And yes, I know I've listed it twice. I really want a Krycek/Marita video of this song, but I would want it to be an AU happy ending kind of thing.
"Power of Two" by the Indigo Girls reminds me of Monica Reyes. I can pretty much split that whole album (Swamp Ophelia) into Monica-songs and Marita-songs. I'm obsessive that way. In fact I tend to associate whole albums with characters or shows.
Three Songs That Make You Think of Another Person's Fic
"I would have done the same for you" by the Nields is very strongly associated in my mind with "What You Leave Behind" by Ann Ripley .
"Spin on a Red Brick Floor" by Nanci Griffith reminds me of

Perhaps it's odd, but the Morphine song I associate most closely with Sleeps With Coyotes' fic is "I'm Yours, You're Mine," rather than "Rope on Fire."
2 Songs Which Have Such Great Fannish Connotations That You Need To Make Everyone In the World Listen to Them.
"Mystery" by the Indigo Girls (...you like the tase of danger, it shines like sugar on your lips, you like to stand in the line of fire just to show you can shoot straight from your hip...)
"Coming up close" by Til Tuesday (...he and I in a borrowed car went driving in the darkness, promises in every star...)
And 1 Song That You Never Want To See Inspire a Fic In Your Fandom...
Any song by Andrew Lloyd Webber. This probably dates me, but my mental heath would be greatly increased if I could be certain that I would never see another fic inspired by some song out of Phantom of the Opera EVER AGAIN. Thank you.
