What really impresses me about your comment is the amount of work you put in to the decision. I'm certainly not saying that second person is never appropriate, and it's very clear from what you've written here that it was the only way for you to tell that story.
It also seems (from your comment and others) that the sense of a "semi-internalized imperative" lies at the heart of a lot of effective uses of the second person. It may become easier for me to read these stories if I keep that in mind.
