talking about the weather

We seem to be having a lot of wind and some snow; it's hard to tell how much, since it's all blowing around a lot. My apartment is cold, but it's Friday and if I feel like it I can go to bed really early if I want. And indeed, I might.

The good news is that my apartment door locks now; for a while it was a little difficult to get the locks to work in such a way that you couldn't just open the door by pushing hard. The bad news is that my bathroom door still can't be fully closed. This isn't such a big deal so long as I'm here on my own and don't intend to entertain, but it is my understanding that other people do like to be able to close the bathroom door. (This is supposed to be fixed sometime next week; the latch is so archaic that replacing it is apparently a whole big thing.)

And speaking of whole big things (and also blowing snow around), I wrote something last year about how people mostly get to be considered BNFs because they work hard and give a lot back to fandom, but I'm too lazy to go find the post. So instead I will say: dear friends list, I am very fond of all of you.

Likewise.

Also, oddly enough, on my flist just now, the post just above yours is by [livejournal.com profile] huzzlewhat, in which she says basically the same thing: BNFs get to be BNFs by writing good stories and running ficathons and modding communities and making recs and all that stuff. So far as I can tell, that status is never entirely unearned, and is not, in fact, a bad thing. It means they've done something valuable to the fandom.
