Fred is a surprisingly difficult character to write for the first time, especially with something so deeply in her POV. When she's written well (as here) it looks deceptively simple, because she has such a "normal girl next door" quality that its easy to forget just how complex her motivations can be, especially during/after Pylea.

At least that's what I've found writing her.
