Woken far, far too early by a cramp in my leg and the drip, drip, drip of the leaky roof. At least I used the time productively: see my shiny new GIP!

I've had to retire Alex and Marita to make space for this. Sniffle.

I'm not sure that betrayal is really a bulletproof kink for me--there's very little that can't be ruined by bad writing, and vice versa--but it certainly determines what I don't like in a genre. Nothing makes me sadder than to see a juicy, adversarial relationship full of hopeless love and betrayal "solved" by the erasure of the source of conflict. Stories where one character is replaced by an innocent clone and AUs where the betrayal never happened just don't do it for me. I can handle stories where the characters are revealed to have been on the same side all along, but I need the history to be there and to be recognized. And once the story gets past the moment of forgiveness and reconciliation, I lose interest. I have no desire to watch the happily reconciled couple overcoming life's little trials.
