I am not sure I need to say anything more than this:

My name is [livejournal.com profile] vaznetti. I am an active participant in Supernatural fandom. I don't like Wincest of any variety.

I like this fandom very much, and would be sorry to find that this opinion meant that I could not be part of it. That has certainly not been my experience so far, and I hope that the fandom will remain tolerant of both pro- and anti-wincest opinion.

I would have to agree with the above commenter. I am an absolute tinhat Wincest shipper, and it doesn't bother me in the least that there are people I generally like who don't care for the stuff, any more than it bothers me that there are people in the world who don't care for raspberry vinaigrette, which is also in my opinion one of the best things evar.

What bothers me is the people who dislike Wincest who insist on telling me that:

1) there's something wrong with me because I like it;

2) when I say I see incestuous subtext in canon and am not just writing/reading this stuff because I have a kink or because there is something wrong with me, I must be lying or saying that just to be annoying, and/or I am stupidly claiming that Wincest IS canon, which anyone with a two-digit IQ knows can't be true;

3) they have the right to tell me what to write or read.

If you don't like Wincest, you don't like Wincest. I personally hate zucchini, but I don't see why the fact that you might like it would make it impossible for us to be friends.

I don't have any problem with people posting "why I don't like Wincest" but it seems as though they never do. Instead, they post "why I don't like Wincest and you shouldn't, either". (Your posting, imnsho, is an exception to that general rule.) Then they get really angry when the people they've just insulted complain about the fact that they were insulted.

I am perfectly okay, cool and fine with the fact that some people:

1) don't like incest stories, period;
2) don't see incestuous subtext in SPN;
3) dislike Wincest for some other reason, such as that Dean really reminds them of their own older brother and ew, please don't make me go THERE.

Where I get pissed off is when it's suggested that:

1) I'm sick and a danger to children;
2) I have a kink that people are willing to tolerate for the sake of civility/saving the show--so long as I acknowledge that they're right, I'm wrong, and the subtext that I personally actually do see isn't really there and I'm just being perverse;
3) My stating that I actually do see subtext is in some way equivalent to a brain-breakingly stupid insistence that Wincest is canon, which of course it pattently isn't;
4) I and others like me are in some way responsible for the actual or potential moral decline of society and the possible widespread acceptance of incestuous relationships in the real world in the near future (WTF?)

That sort of thing is insulting, and I could come up with equally insulting responses to it, but I don't think that the resulting discussion would make fandom a better place for anyone, pro or con, you know?

PS: In general, I think you are much with the awesome, and the actual reason that I friended you had a lot more to do with your posts about Rome than anything you've ever said about SPN.
